Raised over $500k tonight for LSU baseball NIL. Record for the first pitch banquet. This team is going to do great things. Brown Cowan Milam and Stanny all spoke and they are very impressive.

I know that is what numbers say in the recent financial report. They have way more fans in attendance than men games do. Are their tickets just super cheap? It doesn’t make sense.

I don’t give a single shite about the popularity of college basketball across the Nation. LSU has created the best baseball legacy in college. Additionally, LSU baseball fans support is unrivaled and the administration should recognize the passion our fan base has for the program and support it. No reason LSU Men’s or Women’s basketball should get more than LSU baseball. No reason!

I bet they raise close to $500K tonight for NIL.

They announced at the end that that's just about what they raised tonight.

More excuses. The fact is Jethro it's THIRD AT BEST among every major school's fan base. Except for LSU. By the way, I watch 150+ Phillies games every year via extra innings. But that's MLB, not boring college baseball.

And you best believe that if we ever hire AND keep the right coach in basketball, it'll be third here among our fan base as well.

So you and your other baseball bros should keep rooting for this WALKING CORPSE of a basketball coach to do just enough to hang on. Because he's definitely not the answer to LSU winning in basketball.

PS: why does our administration have baseball.fighting for scraps ( in terms of revenue share) among the other MINOR SPORTS at LSU???? Are they "uncultured swine" also?? Or is it the dreaded "short attention span" striking again?

Wow!!! We are winning in the tallest midget category!! Print the t shirts!!

Colleges feed it crumbs through revenue share because statistically speaking, nobody watches this BS.

LSU Baseball isn't a minor sport at LSU. It's #2 behind football and should get far more love and not lumped into "all the rest of the sport programs".

You may not but that does not change the reality - and to ignore that and try to pit one against the other is short sighted and negligent.

Both can co-exist and be excellent. Please quit pretending that can't be the case here just because you like one sport over the other.

Men’s basketball could not win another game for 5 seasons, baseball could win every game for 5 seasons. Guess who would turn a profit and who would still lose money

Men’s basketball turns a profit through allocated revenue. It would be fairly close to break even if it never sold a single ticket, so it’s not the gotcha you think it is.

With that said, it shows how much revenue LSU is leaving on the table by allowing the basketball program to be non competitive.

Did you do the math for each sport?

As a percent of total "Team sports" revenue from the chart:

Football 82.9%
Men's Basketball 8.93%
Women's BB 1.8%
Baseball 5.33%
All others 1.05%

So baseball is getting screwed, basketball is benefitting on both mens and womens side. And this is as of June 2024, I would bet men's basketball has fallen, WBB might be up since then. Baseball is likely up. Football is down

It’s even more stark when you look at revenue over expenditures (effectively “profit”) for each sport.

For the FY ending June 2025 (so these numbers do not include revenue sharing):

Football: $64.4M
Men’s Basketball: $2.5M
Baseball: ($0.9M)

Men’s Tennis: ($1.2M)
Women’s Golf: ($1.3M)
Women’s Beach Volleyball: ($1.3M)
Men’s Golf: ($1.4M)
Women’s Tennis: ($1.5M)
Women’s Volleyball: ($2.2M)
Women’s Soccer: ($2.5M)
Women’s Gymnastics: ($2.9M)
Softball: ($3.0M)
Swimming & Diving: ($3.6M)
Track & Field: ($6.8M)
Women’s Basketball: ($8.0M)

It’s a little odd to me that WBB would get a dedicated 5% while baseball gets lumped in with the 5% to “all other sports,” when WBB is bringing in less revenue while losing more money. I get it with MBB, but it seems kind of wild to tack another ~$1M onto your $8M annual loss for WBB, unless they’re making big cuts elsewhere.

That and LSU does not have to be the highest bidder in baseball like we do in other sports. Success, development history, and demographics work to our advantage in baseball.

I'm sure LSU is just afraid to tell Kim Mulkey no. It was probably part of the agreement they gave her to come here. I bet once she's gone that 5% goes away within a couple years

The point is that schools like Ole Miss are allocating more for baseball regardless of the revenue

Are they? Their baseball probably has similar revenue to us and their football is probably far less. So baseball would be a bigger piece of the pie.

I'm just guessing though, not going to dive into Ole Miss athletics revenue on a Friday.

ETA:

2024 athletics revenue:

LSU - 200m
Ole Miss -150m

So 7.5% of a smaller pie as well.

ETA@:

Nvm on second part, forgot it's the same amount for each school. Still, their football made less for sure so baseball would be more of their revenue pie than LSU baseball.

Ole Miss made more than $1MM on baseball last year.

But generally, the total revenue doesn't matter if everyone in the SEC is splitting the same 20.5. Ole Miss and Arkansas have apportioned more of their 20.5 to baseball than LSU and Tennessee have.
