I think most people going into the 2024 season knew we would probably take a step back.

LSU the highest ranked pitcher to make it to campus since Jack Leiter.

Regardless of the talent we have supposedly "on paper", who will be the leader on the team?? That was the biggest missing component last season. No one fired the team up like when we won the natty (Dugas, Beloso, Jobert, etc...). It looked like a bunch of individuals doing their own thing last year and that aint gonna get you to Omaha. When you watched teams like Tennessee and Florida play last season (as much as I hate them both), you saw guys without a doubt playing for each other. That's what I'll be watching for personally.

You lost your entire weekend rotation.
You lost your biggest bat.
You lost your best bull pen arms.
And you replaced it with guys from lower d-1 schools.
Does that translate to the sec? No one knows.
Last year we were told in fall and spring scrimmages how dominant we would be on the mound, and we definitely underperformed those predictions.
You are also assuming Shores and Noot comeback ready to contribute in a big way.
We all expected Kling, Neal, Frey, and Jones to make a leap from freshman to sophomores and only Jones made that leap.
There’s just a ton of unknowns to say in July we should be pre season#1.
Definitely think the ingredients are there, but who steps up and how the new guys perform will determine that, and it’s far too early to make any predictions.

Yes but we also brought in a ton of pitching talent.

We did lose White and that will hurt. But imo, we replaced the struggling bats with much more potential.

Yes but we brought in some really good pitching talent. Herring is tough to replace though.

BUT we brought in a BUNCH of guys as replacements so we aren't banking on a single player to work out. Odds are in our favor.

We were very good on the mound. The only real disappointments were Hurd, Johnson, and Loer. Everyone else pitched well.

I think most assume Shores is good because there are actual reports of him pitching well recently and we have seen him. Noot is a wildcard and we should have no expectations of him. anything he gives is gravy.

And the rest are gone. We aren't expecting a few players to make a leap, we brought in a bunch of guys that are proven to some extent and the odds are that we will find solid contributors in this group.

I agree.

I just think the 3 letters LSU are getting the respect, the purpose of this kind of article is to generate clicks and discussion. I’m sure the fans of the teams in Omaha this season, probably feel slighted by this prediction which will spur lots of clicks and conversation

Jack Leiter never made it to LSU's campus

And? Schmidt is the highest ranked pitcher to make it to any campus since Jack Leiter.
ETA: Per Baseball America, who also wrote the list being debated in this thread.

That's not what the article says. It states Jack Leiter made it to LSU's campus. Thats inaccurate.

No it doesn't.
It says this:
quote:
William Schmidt, the top prep righthander in the draft class, opted to come to school, giving LSU the highest ranked pitcher to make it to campus since Jack Leiter.
"make it to campus" is a general term applied to any kid that get through the draft and plays college baseball instead. If you read that very simple sentence as them implying Leiter went to LSU rather than them meaning Schmidt is in the same talent class as Jack Leiter, that's on your lack of reading comprehension.

I took it as he is the highest ranked player on any team to make it to campus since Jack Leiter.

negative people will try to point out, but LSU was preseason top 5ish last season!
They were preseason #1 or #2 last year.

So you are vouching for a team that lost 30 games last year? Doesn't seem like their cohesiveness lead to many wins. I don't think you watched much of either one of them to be honest

BS, in the article that burrreaux found on the dark web, LSU is ranked 15th in the preseason poll.

Its poorly worded but they were saying he's the highest rated pitcher to make it to ANY campus, not just LSU's
