Love LSU & wish Kiffin the best, but please don't ever use Saban & Kiffin in same sentence

Nick Saban was the head coach at Alabama for 14 years, 9 months, and 6 days before he suffered his first loss to a former assistant. He finished his legendary career with a 28-3 overall record (a 90.3% win rate) against his former assistants.
Kiffin lost his first game to an assistant in only his third game at LSU to former assistant Pete Golding, who was coaching his third game ever as a HC on any level. Kiffin now has a 1-1 record against former assistants, beating Georgia Southern, who was coached by Clay Helton, who was an assistant at USC under Kiffin.
And no, I'm not an Alabama fan and they are actually the team I despise the most. With that being said, however, I'm a realist and the facts speak for themselves.

I’ll help you out. The first game against a former assistant for Saban at Bama was his 49th game as Bama’s HC against an unranked Tennessee lead by Derek Dooley. But go off king!

How long did it take for Saban to lose to his former team? One year? How’d that age? Both are from Saban’s coaching tree which is probably the best

I agree that comparing any current coach to that situation is dumb. But not because of coaching ability. Because of the ability to build an unstoppable monster from top to bottom and keep it in place. Saban was able to bring in freaks all over the field and they were required to stay and develop regardless of how much playing time they were getting or whatever situation. He was able to stock up like Mormons for the apocalypse.

Times are different and Saban got out before the parity of college football ruined his legacy. He operated with an advantage for many years and his roster and football games proved it.

I would also say similar in how they were job hoppers. Saban upset #1 Ohio St in 1998, then the next year got Sparty a 9-2 regular season, the best season they'd had in ages. He left before the bowl game and tried to take all the coaches over there with him. They were all pissed that he was leaving for LSU who had floundered around for the past decade and didn't follow him. Then at LSU he said he wasn't going to leave for the NFL after a lot of speculation only for him to give us all a Christmas present changing his mind to leave for the Dolphins, leaving us with a hail mary loss to Iowa as his parting gift. Only for 2 years later to say he would not be the Alabama coach but still ending up there anyway, right in our division.
He then stayed at Alabama for 15 years so his reputation as a frequent job hopper kind of faded and nobody really talks about it that much anymore, also because social media hadn't really taken off during his job hopping years. Here's to hoping LSU will be Kiffin's 15 year stop.
