Didn't know about Holtz and LSU story over retaining Cholly one more year.
But, have heard Bowden story of FSU winning in BR convinced him he could get it done in Tally, thus turned down LSU.
And well remember the idiots in charge of LSU wanting Sam Rutigliano(Cowboy Boots on table Cusimano loved a paisano),etc..
LSU not meeting nor greeting like their fifth candidate SOS at airport, and him catching a cab? When he had just had great AFL stint and rode Ben Bennett and Duke to the top of the ACC. Dumb! Me and my buddies were Frosh at LSU, he was our pick by a mile.
Sleeping Giant rep was once well deserved..and very self-inflicted.

Safer pick is always a great athlete for a “purely athletic” position like pash rusher.
It takes a lot more things to be successful as a qb including players around you an offensive line proper coaching/scheme/play calling.

Steve was in the USFL and would not coach Duke until after we turned him down. Steve was not a big time candidate back in those days, he was an afterthought.

He was a buddy of mine's fav by far, albeit huge USFL fan(I only watched Jim Kelly Gamblers games..he watched all), we chuckled at the thought of Rutigliano. I do remember us talking about wanting SOS walking the Quad..around same era as 'Crazy Days at LSU' Brodhead Wiretap-SI cover-Dale Brown-Tito Horford fiascos.

Maybe he forgot that our fired former coach made his successor quit and subsequently destroyed the USCe football program.
He obviously either hasn’t seen LSU play or God-forbid has dementia.
