Let's be honest, the expectations for this season are off the charts

I'll say the quiet part out loud. To put it bluntly, the honeymoon period is over before it even began. It is time for this team to either put up or shut up. With the roster talent on hand and millions in resources invested in this weird NIL era, the standard remains exactly what it has always been, competing for championships right now. Waiting around for a multi-year rebuild is a luxury LSU cannot afford in the modern college football landscape.
We didn't just hire a coach, we pulled off a full-scale geopolitical coup. LSU went full Seal Team Six into Oxford in the dead of night, bagged Lane Kiffin over their shoulders while he was still sleeping in his Ole Miss pajamas, and flew him across state lines.
The pleasantries are officially out the window, the pressure is squarely on the sidelines, and this program needs to deliver dominant results on the field. God help them if they come out and lay an egg against Clemson week 1. The Rant may not survive it.

I disagree to an extent.
I think the anticipation is off the charts. The excitement to see a fresh new team and philosophy.
My actual expectations are not that high I don’t think. Expectations are to be competitive in every game and be in real playoff position discussion.
I will be ok with 9-3. Excited about 10-2.

I don't see why expectations shouldn’t be high. Especially with the way the game has changed. Every program should expect to win immediately.
Programs aren’t built over time. They’re bought in the offseason. Every team, every program is now simply playing an elaborate game of musical chairs in the offseason.
Once the choices are made, we roll the dice to see whose dollars were spent best. It’s not really even about football anymore. It’s an arms race. The football is just how we determine the winner.
The real game is played with dollars and not enough sense. You could get behind the momentum of a program. It’s much harder to get behind a competition to determine who has the biggest wallet or who uses it best.
BCS was peak college football, we just couldn’t see it.

I'm usually more reserved and cautious about season openers (for obvious reasons over the past few years), but I'm been proclaiming to the Clempsonites around here that we're gonna score 45 and win big.

Leavitt has to stay healthy for LSU to reach expectations. Longstreet or whoever is the #2 QB needs as many reps during the fall just in case. I'm sure LK is on it.

I’m excited. No real expectations other than win at least 9 in the regular season and don’t get embarrassed in the ones we don’t win.

Not getting skulled by TX A&M would be an added bonus.
But yes, in today world of NIL, you "reload" faster than you can "rebuild" so no reason LSU shouldn't be competitive. Team chemistry is a big deal and if this team can gel, then no reason they shouldn't be in the mix.
LSU had no chemistry nor identity under BK. I look forward to a return of that.

Every season at schools like LSU,ALA,GEO,AU,FLA,now OM the expectations are off the charts,then reality steps in.For a team to win 10-11 games in the SEC you better have a hell of a lot of depth not many injuries and great coaching every week.The days of Sabans ALA are over where his talent and depth was so much better than everyone else he could garentee 10-11 wins a year.Im optimistic but also realistic but for LSU to win or compete for a champ this season ALL THE POSITIVE FACTORS will have to come into place.I hope they do ,GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I will say right now, I don't expect this team to win a title (SEC or playoff), and it wouldn't surprise me if they miss the playoffs.
I'm just being realistic, this is year 1 for Kiffin, with very little continuity from last year's team.
What I'm hoping to see, is the restoration of the ground game. Kiffin's teams run the ball, something LSU hasn't done in a long time. If that is good, then everything else will be ok.

You can relate Indiana's success more about the quarterback in my opinion. Just like Burrow in 2019. I think no matter what you have spent on roster, you better have a game changing qb. I know we will be a good football team but I refuse to set my expectations too high. Guys we have a tough arse schedule and a brand new team and coaching staff. Kiffin will make LSU proud again if fans don't piss him off with all the win it all or bust crap

Bob Stoops did that at OU many years ago and the average age of that OU team was nowhere near 24. Long before COVID.

I'm actually not looking at win totals, I'm more focused on how we look.
Kelly's record wasn't bad, people point out that some coaches got extensions with a similar record. The problem, I think, when you boil it down, was that his teams weren't physically strong.
We blew Oklahoma out in 2024, but that was passing the ball. Nussmeier looked elite in that game and some others, and he looked good enough in a lot more. Jayden Daniels looked elite enough in 2023 to win the Heisman, and was good enough in every other game here.
But- we're "LSU". We're supposed to have a thousand yard RB, run the ball for 200 yds a game, push people around. We're not supposed to get manhandled by Georgia, A&M, or anyone else.
You can call it the "Les Miles" residual, but LSU should be able to win 8-9 games a year without a viable QB, and if we do get one, then that's your arse for everyone on the schedule. And don't tell me football isn't that way anymore, Kiffin's teams run the ball. He's had 1k rushers most seasons. Football is still about bullying the other team.

You know like 10 other programs say this exact same thing, right?
Also, it is physically impossible to not enjoy football more this year with Lane at the helm.
Watching that defense in 23 and that offense in 25 was actually hard to do. We will never see one side of the ball that consistently bad in the Lane era. Ever.

I’m not at championship or bust expectations this year. I want LSU to compete in every game and play a fun brand of football. I think we end up around 10-2/9-3
