Same here. While it's fun to get excited,(and we should be with Lane's innovative offense) it's still 18-22 yr olds and the SEC is a gauntlet.

we assembled a great staff and a great collection of talent but we have to work our tails off every day and keep getting better and have it all come together

The great championship teams and specifically coaches in this sport never got ahead of themselves with future results, they were process-driven and took everything one day at a time.

You don't hear Saban, Cignetti, Day, Marcus Freeman, Kirby talk about championships while it's still summer and fall camp hasn't happened yet. I don't think I've heard Lane talk about it since he's been the LSU coach.

I think Lane and Co do that, that's why he changed his entire life and outlook on life and these coaches eat, sleep, and breathe football

I think you are slightly off. While most are ECXITED for the new season and to see what we are capable of, I think most are still being pretty cautious with expectations. I expect a 9-10 win season but I’m really excited to what we can do.

Yeah, but no. The traditional building year over year is out. Cignetti has his formula of older guys, which obviously works. Kiffin has his own proven formula too.

He seems way ahead of value of positions/teams. Happy with 3* in certain places with right skills. Credit his upbringing (and failure) in the pros for him to be a bit ahead of the curve with this way of thinking. Probably helps with the money folks showing he is savvy in that respect as well. He has an advantage which means we have an advantage.

This season has a very optimistic outlook with lots of excitement to be held. I don't think I could be disappointed this season at all.

And you know what I hate the most when people bring it up? Roughly 99.9% of them (and yes I say that seriously because it almost NEVER is brought up the way it should), never bring up the nuance of that entire situation. They keep talking about most losing program into 16-0, but what they don't mention;

-the ridiculously high percentage of super and super+ seniors all over the roster

-a roster that immediately started winning when they went from FCS to FBS, that transfered into JMU, and then to Indiana.

-a ton spent on the roster (people are talking about LSU's 40+ mill, but IIRC, Indiana's was north of 20 mill and I think either close to 30 mill or right over).

-the first year, they played a creampuff delight of a schedule. When I say it was creampuff, I mean it. Of their 11 wins, TWO were against teams with winning records. One went 8-5 and the other went 7-6. Their schedule was so bad, the two G5 teams they played both had losing records


If you tell it like it is instead of going along with the insanity, people call you a hater. I congratulate them on the national championship. They were that good. I'm not even going to rag on that Notre Dame like schedule in year two because they beat Ohio St and Oregon before the playoffs. They deserve that, however people stamping him as the best or 2nd best coach after one national championship shows just how much this sport engages in mob mentality.

It's not that crazy of a leap. Fans forever at schools that hire new head coaches will point to Cignetti turning around Indiana as a reason for them to not be patient with their new hire. I get that there's nuance to the Indiana situation but the overwhleming majority won't care.
