re: “Lance Heard evaluating his role at LSU” per Kelly

The main problem with this is that he doesn’t need to sit out the game to evaluate his role. As good as he projects to be, I would still have a hard time talking him into staying on the team if I was BK.

make no mistake about it, all universities and these private companies work hand-in-hand and one doesn't act without the other knowing about it. That's the only way it works.
Everyone knows that.
They still have zero control & power. If, as a player, you are good enough to garner an NIL deal, you will always have the power.

Sure you can. A contractual agreement between the school and the athlete doesn’t have to be tied to his NIL. A pro athlete can have deals with shoe companies that have no bearing on their player contracts.
And there’s nothing stopping the NCAA from stepping in and regulating NIL in the future. Eventually something like this will have to happen.

They already have that. It’s called a scholarship

Yes, the NCAA could help things by restoring the former rules requiring players to sit out a year when transfering, but they would be pummeled with lawsuits within a few hours. You can't grant a right and then take it back.
The transfer portal was never the problem, the immediate eligibility was what caused the dam to break. The portal would be far, far smaller if players had to sit out a year. The NCAA completely botched it, and there's no going back.

Ok? I’m clearly talking about something different than the current system to better protect all stakeholders in this process, but if being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian is THAT important to you, by all means carry on.

Gotta be nice to have teams calling offering money and a starting spot in the lineup

There’s definitely no going back to what we had before, but there’s certainly things that could be done to fix the issues. The schools will demand it.

Do you think he didn't sign a contract to fulfill his NIL responsibilities?

The NIL version of a holdout except its not pre-season.
You are playing for your team and teammates to achieve a 10 win season. Guess that's not important to you. Its a choice but its a bad one

College football, late 2023, here we are

If the players and patrons could agree to a longer contract of incentives and vice versa then I could see that working. Ultimately however the transfer portal and immediate playing time is the bargaining chip that needs to be regulated for the benefit of everybody involved, including the players.

How exhausting is it to be a college coach now?
You have to recruit and also recruit your own team every year.

Not showing up says he's gone.

They get more than fairly compensated however

True, NIL needs to be regulated, but no one seems to know how that would work. You can't restrict how much money a player can make on an NIL deal, so what can you do?
Make them employees? Give them revenue sharing? The NCAA can't and won't solve this. Congress is probably the most logical route, but I'm not sure they know what to do, either.

Did anybody hear Jordy this morning saying he heard Ole Miss is paying players in the transfer portal 20% more then what they are asking for so they can’t say no to them?

It was all in the way it was handled. The NCAA is still in control of the eligibility clock and that has never been challenged. 5 to play 4 is the rule and has been the rule for a long time. The extra eligibility that has been given - 6th or 7th years - has all been voluntary, not forced through the courts. They should have handled the transfers by using the eligibility clock and causing players to lose years.

Of course, doubt the NCAA would enforce anything it's after the transfer window closes.
