They are so worried about getting their next question in, they probably don't even listen.

I don't think they do. They're not looking for a conversation, they're looking for specific quotes to cherry pick into their already written narratives.
They just ask the questions and record everything to parse later.

Fischer was tipping the pitches at 2nd base.
Johnson visited the mound after he saw him do it after the 2nd pitch. He tipped the 3rd pitch as well, then Hernandez went out, too.

Nicely done Les

this is where Lloyd shines on Mike’d up.
if we talk about it enough he’ll ask jay next time he’s on the show

He actually did it a couple more times that at bat that were even more obvious. Fischer must have an iq of 75 to be so obvious

Good for him for adjusting and having his strongest performance of the year.
This is my biggest take away. Baseball players, esp. pitchers, have routines and habits, and for him to catch it and stop it, and adjust midgame....

Was he just signaling “away” as Hernandez was set up on the outer half?
Jones did it when he was on 2nd later in the game.

"Knew what pitch was coming"
And the batter struck out swinging on a curve ball.
Ah, good times...

Interesting story I'd really like to know more details about, not just speculation. I didn't watch the post game, but it's malpractice for a reporter to not f/u on Coach's comment. OTOH, I could see Coach Johnson give a Les Miles type "explanation" and never sharing any actual details about the incident.
I know a guy who was a scholarship baseball player at a small college many years ago. Since he played little his freshman year, he was tasked w/ figuring out the opponents signs and signals. He told me he usually had them figured out part way through the game. I'm sure things have changed w/ the advent electronic coms, but there still may be some old school "stealing" of signs and observing tells going on at times.

Agreed. I thought it was interesting that Milam had a rather long conversation with Evans on the mound 1 pitch after the CJJ mtg. I think he was talking to him about what he was seeing & hearing. Evans sure did a GREAT job adjusting and sat them down for the most part thereafter.
The results are difficult to deny. UT had either 3 or 4 hits in the first inning. They had 7 for the game. That’s taking care of business

Jones did it when he was on 2nd later in the game.
I think Fischer could probably see the ball in Evans' glove. Likely calling the actual pitch along with location.

quote:Old school signs (coach calling pitches into catcher) are super easy to figure out. Just look for indicator (something the coach touches every single pitch) and you'll know the signs within like 2 batters.

With no indicator it might take a little longer to figure out, but if you have an above average baseball IQ, it shouldn't take longer than 2-3 innings.
