K’Lavon Chaisson released by Carolina Panthers

Only 5 sacks and 72 tackles in 56 games.
Not a complete bust, but did not produce at the level expected of the 20th pick in the draft. I guess he was overpowered by NFL O-linemen.
He’s only 25 so I hope he gets another chance with another team. He made over 13 million and should be in good financial shape if he managed it well.

He never had that burst from the outside that you would expect given his physical tools. He is a physical specimen and has good speed. Not sure why it didn't translate better. Perhaps he is a bit undersized?
Best of luck to him. A fine young man.

I’m sure he will say he was wronged. In some way.

"Hopefully the Saints will sign him"

It’s ok to say complete bust

Even at LSU he was never as productive as his physical traits said he should be. Don't get me wrong he was a solid player but he was never truly dominant. He never really blew by people with his first step and he never developed an array of pass rush moves to beat OTs. He would just run up field as fast as he could and would either get run off or would try to bull rush. His best pass rush reps were always stunts where Aranda schemed him open and he got a free path to the QB. He was honestly a better run defender at LSU than he was a pass rusher.

Everyone got hyped on him because the premier hype man (CEO) built him up as the best raw player he had ever seen.

To his credit: This was the Panthers.

Honestly I feel like his build doesn't really help because it's almost like he's too lanky for linebacker but not big enough to be a true DE. Dude is the leanest looking 254 lbs player I've ever seen.

He left as a redshirt sophomore. LSU has had too many of these players leaving too early after a redshirt sophomore year.

The Panthers are also a notoriously bad team. I think he might be better elsewhere.

Soooo...what makes you say this?

He was a first round draft pick. And based on how the 2020 defense looked, he DEFINITELY made the right call.

He was the 20th overall pick in the draft. To come back would be the equivalent of a finance major turning down $300K from a wall street firm to go to grad school.

Thought he was picking up where key left off after his freshman year. Never really came to fruition. Think that knee injury really hurt his burst more than we realized.
