Kentucky TD before half looked like a TD to me

I was expecting when I saw it to be more clear that forward progress was stopped but I didn’t see that. Am I the only one? No I’m not a Kentucky fan.

Not egregiously bad call, and technically by the book probably the correct call (
) but common sense watching live shows he was stopped. Forward progress was clearly stopped IMO without help and pushing from more than one teammate.
You can’t let a goal line play continue forever and half the team push him in when the guy is clearly stopped short, but I do understand the refs letting it go in those circumstances (4th down at the goal line and last play before half).
If that play happens on some random drive in the first quarter I think some refs would have blown it dead. If that play happens anywhere on the field on 4th and short other than the goal line, nearly all refs would have blown it dead.
I’m not mad about it, I know some are… one of my best friends was and still is livid about it….it is what it is. LSU and Baker shouldn’t have let them drive down there to begin with. We had plenty of time to recover from that anyway.

I am not one to sit here and cry about refs. That call wasn't the reason we lost the game.
That being said, it's an absolutely terrible call. His momentum was clearly stopped. If you can't see that, then you are either blind, or don't want to see it. You can't let a play like that go on forever. At no point is his knee ever going to hit the ground. He is laying on top of 20 players. It has to be blown dead. In no world would the refs let a LB hold up a RB for that long, without blowing the whistle. It's the same thing.

Yeah, no it was not a TD. Forward progress was stopped and I’ll go to my grave saying that was bs. Dude was stoned and didn’t move for what seemed like an eternity

Did you see the explanation given to Kiffin as to why they did not blow the play dead? It was not because the runner was still progressing. It was because he was afraid to blow it...

I just can't get behind that logic. This should be black and white. Not sometimes blown dead and other times not.

I don't think I have ever seen a goal line push go that long before.
You get your initial surge, and then maybe another surge, but I've never seen the initial and the second surge stopped, and then the offensive players just keep shoving the ball carrier into the endzone without the forward progress being called.
That play is literally unstoppable if you just allow the offense to shove forever.

Are you blind? His forward progress was clearly stopped before the goal line, you have to look at the sideline view.
He was stopped and even gave up, he just laid there with people on top of him, unable to advance any further until the refs allowed his teammates to just come up and push him over the line.

I went back and read the rule interpretation for goal line situations. If the runner is pushed back and has his footing and on second effort advances that is OK. In this case the runner was stopped and by no effort of his own advanced. He did not start advancing again until other players grabbed him and shoved him across. He even started turning sideways.
Play should have been dead.

This has always been my problem with this play. You're supposed to call the play dead as soon as his momentum stops because he won't have a knee touch. However, if a ref doesn't blow it dead then the offensive line can easily get that second push when the majority of the defense is on their knees. So yes its a bad call but thats my problem with officiating, a lot of it is judgement calls.

His momentum was stopped for 3 seconds before his teammate pushed him across the goal, it wasn’t a touchdown.

Good point, and I understand that thinking as well.
Unfortunately as frustrating as it can be, it is what it is with ref discretion on some situations. Goal line mass of humanity situations are difficult… hell it’s even hard to simply see everything clearly with all the bodies

I mean literally every time a runner gets stood up anywhere else on the field for more than a second or so they start blowing the play dead immediately. They dont give them 3-4 seconds after forward progress is stopped to "maybe start forward progress again"
I think its fine if he was stonewalled for a SPLIT second then went forward again, that was not the case here. He was clearly stopped for a solid couple seconds OUT of the endzone then gets pushed in ultimately after forward progress was stopped. This is like when people strip balls out of runners hands who are stood up for a few seconds and they say well forward progress was stopped so no fumble there.
Why the rule "changes" for the goal line is beyond me. But to some degree they always swallow their offsides whistles for goal line plays too when most of the Dline is clearly over the neutral zone as well so, creative NCAA rules I suppose.

Forward progress should've been stopped after he was laying half a yard short for a good few seconds.
The call was egregious. And if it happened to anyone other than Kiffin the CFB world would be going crazy about it.

Yes.
If he had fumbled and LSU came out of the pile with the ball running the other way, it would have 100% been blown dead due to his forward progress being stopped. That’s all anyone needs to know.

There use to be whistles that would blow once forward progress was stopped in plays like that. Buy the whistle can always be swallowed if there is hope that eventually some forward progress will eventually get to where the whistle blower hopes.

It probably was actually. Whole dynamic of second half changes if LSU has a halftime lead. It was a bullshite call.
