LINKIn his post game presser,

Start at the 11:00 mark. Added link for those that missed the presser posted on TD.

Kelly said this off week will determine who will start at both safeties. He did not sound happy (my opinion) and said they had enough film to evaluate who will start for the SEC run. There won’t be as much substitution here on out.

The only thing I’ve seen Sage do all season is be 5 yards away from a huge play for the opposing team then hit the ball carrier after they go into the endzone or finish their 30 yard gain. It’s every bit as bad as the DJ Welter era, not to beat the dead horse but I do not understand how the kid is still on the field

He should not be on the field. Burns has effort but just is always giving up huge plays bc he gets out of position.

I used to think coaching but that is not the case.

Burns into Perkins spot will be good. His coverage downfield isn’t great but handling the flat, blitzing and run support is good. Perkins had more talent but Burns plays hard.

Ryan cannot seem to do the right thing on plays. He just does not have Honey Badger instincts, or any instincts, that bring him into position to make plays. It’s hard to understand why since we are not setting the scheme

There was a WR screen play, maybe in the 3rd, and Ryan covered it from a timing and recognition standpoint but he ran right past the guy and could have stopped the guy for no gain and instead the dude got 10-15yds and a 1st down...

He misses open field tackles in the run game every week. He’s simply not good at anything other than playing hard and talking shite. The fact that he hasn’t been recruited over tells you all you need to know about the secondary recruiting over the last few years

Spears should never come off the field

I don’t know why he does

He makes so many 1 on 1 downfield, touchdown saving tackles.

Just let him go all game.

Burns missed a couple solo tackle opportunities in the first quarter.. against South Alabama. He seems to understand his responsibility, but struggles to make plays.

Gilbert was intended to come in and salvage one of the two safety positions but unfortunately that has not panned out

Didn’t he get hurt in an earlier game? SCe? Can’t recall but I seem to remember him out of the game.

Imagine Sage or Burns trying to cover Ryan Williams

as I mentioned in the game thread, Spears has to recognize how far back he is on run % plays. If he is 2 yards closer, he is making a lot more tackles. He will be one of the safeties.

Kelly mentioned this I believe with his back peddle comment.

Watching our safety's in coverage is just awful. Always letting opposing players get behind them and watching them tackle is another story.

Every weekend its the same topics. Really is a head scratcher to believe the secondary was going to make monumental leaps under Raymond. He was fired from Florida and his units have not performed well for quite some time.

Raymond isn’t a miracle worker, he still needs talented guys. Unfortunately Ryan and burns are holdovers from the previous regime and veterans.

My opinion is id rather watch the young guys get thrown into the fire than those two continue to be out of position and not make plays.

He’s said this previously. They have been playing basically everyone at safety to get film on them. The point being to lock down those position this week and next week. It’s been their plan for a while.
