Openers can be indicative of your offseason program and prep.

ND OL in "Another Dimension" historically than LSU OL.

Huge mistake (Yet another BK hiring blunder) not bringing the ND OL Coach to LSU.

To me, it’s not that we have to win the opener.

I’d prefer that for once we show up in an opener looking like the team actually knew there was a football game that day. They have been woefully unprepared for every opener since the Covid season.

It would be nice if we could start the season 1-0. Starting the year 0-1 every year has been tiresome. I look forward to the day when we do but not sure that is this year.

It’s actually crazy that you don’t see how big it is to start the season 1-0
If you mean by starting 1-0 that it sets the tone for the rest of the season then sure. But if it's just the 1 in the win column you are referring to (which is what you said and had no reference to tone) then the poster you replied to has a point that you don't.

I do think the Kelly can't win openers, get the team ready for openers is a bit overplayed.

I think there are some reasons, we lost the two openers before he got here and folks kind of roll those 5 years all together to where some seem to think it's he that lost 5.

Secondly, the two Fla St. teams were good teams, the first one was very comparable in talent to hours and got to play a game the week before the opener, which benefited them. The second Fla St team was just better than us, we didn't know at the time how really bad our defense was.

Now last year, that's on Kelly. We were the better team and should have won.

I say all that to say the narrative that we keep hearing has some nuance to it.

He’s just making up scenarios to make him feel better about losing the first game.

The past 5 years show us that it’s important. I don’t need a bigger sample size to know how important it is to start the season off not looking like a shite football team.

Well, if you’re going to have a loss best to lose first game rather than the last.

Tell me where he is coaching now. If he was that good, surely someone else would have hired him.

Sadly, this how too many LSU fans look at it. In this new playoff environment a loss is a loss. If LSU loses to Clemson they must 10-1 (7-1 in the SEC) or 11-0 to make the playoffs. 9-3 won’t get you there, SEC or not. DO NOT SCHEDULE A TOP TEN OOC TEAM ON THE ROAD. LSU football schedulers have been asleep at the wheel.

Whoever is scheduling LSU football should be fired, yesterday.

The SEC requires teams to schedule at least 1 P4 team. No P4 team will agree to a single game at LSU, so it will be a home-and-home. These schedules are set years in advance. In this case, before the 2018 season. Note that Clemson has not finished in the top 10 in the AP since the 2020 season and may not this season.

I do not think it should be the season opener, however.
