He’s nicked. He’s got an ab. That’s all it is fellas. Nothing to see here.

He might really be injured and it’s limiting him…. But still no excuse.

I hope he’s back to his old self next weekend. Not holding my breath though.

We gave up almost 500 yards of offense(230 more than we gained). LSU had more penalty yards, I wish we pulled him as well but a stretch to say it lost the game. Game wasn't as close as the final score indicated.
The D is super overrated. They are not helped at all by the putrid offense, but they are not nearly as good as everyone says they are.

An ab strain doesn't lead to nearly every pass under thrown by 15 yards. And he was as bad as he's ever been last week and it's not getting better.

Ab Strain is not a torn oblique...

An ab strain is when you pull one of the front stomach muscles, usually not too bad and heals pretty quick. A torn oblique is when you hurt the side muscles, and that one’s a lot more painful and takes longer since you use those every time you twist or even breathe deep.

They can both be painful. And, an ab strain can definitely impact your ability to throw the ball. Anyone who has had a rib injury and/or a significant mid section muscle strain should be able to understand that very clearly. It can be debilitating.

But, you are absolutely right that a torn oblique is a different animal altogether. That isn't going to really heal in the short term and probably requires surgery.

I do not believe the injury is behind Nussmeier. Kelly made this same comment after Florida. Then we saw Nuss show less than normal arm strength against SELA and a very poor performance against Ole Miss.

that is my first thought but it would be unfair to assume that since we don't know how much it hurts him...so I will defer on that...

My personal opinion, I think it is mostly mental at this point.

It probably all happened on the hospital pass that Nuss threw him.

1. Kelly said he was on the "back side" of it after the SELU game. That obviously wasn't the case

2. Post-Game against Ole Miss he said that Nuss was not hurt

3. Now he says he was hurt and he's on the back side of it again?

I think you are misrepresenting Kelly's comments.

He's said that he was on the back side of it after Florida. He's still saying it. His claim is that Nuss is healthy.

He is being consistent...he's just not being accurate. He's using "back end of it" meaning it is improving and the limitations he had (they weren't practicing him for a bit) are behind them. But, he's not saying (probably intentionally) that he doesn't have physical limitatons. It's clear that he still has physical limitations.

From the way this is being handled and our QB is 0 threat to throw deep and outside the numbers on top of not running, it seems as though Kelly is the backside of this situation.

I think the D is damn good...even with the performance against Ole Miss.

This was kind of my thought as well. He can be medically “fine” (i.e. very low risk of re-injury, not physically debilitated) where it’s just a matter of pain management. I know he took a big shot early in the OM game.. it’s possible that the pain started getting to him after that.

Also possible that he’s having to “un-learn” bad mechanics that he picked up while dealing with the injury, or that the injury is still in his head like a player who is afraid to cut after ACL rehab.

I don’t think anyone will ever know for sure, but at this point I just hope they’re getting MVB reps with the 1’s while Nuss gets right during the bye week. Ultimately Nuss needs to be better moving forward and if not, we need to be prepared to pull him.
