Wait... Did I miss something? Is Kelly going to be coaching the bowl game? or just on the sidelines watching his talent to get a better understanding of next steps needed and what coaches he may want to retain?

Honestly no one knows but if I had to guess, it would be...

He said he and Scott hadn’t had that conversation yet

Sounds like Kelly intends to have a conversation about the possibility of coaching the team in the bowl game. I would actually prefer this but would have no problem if we keep Brad Davis as the coach for the bowl game for Kelly to watch and observe.

"I've got to make some decisions in preparing this team for a bowl game"

Regardless of gameday, he will absolutely be involved in the preparation

I'd be surprised if was anything more than talent evaluation and a bit of clock management on the side.

Hopefully it's this. Brad was named interim coach so it'd be a bummer if he basically got stripped of that less than a week later. He deserves his one game.

I would rather he have very little involvement with prep for this bowl game and focus more on the recruiting. This bowl game is a reward for the kids and I am all for it but I would hope he would be visiting recruits and being on the phone as much as he can.

I highly doubt CBK coaches this bowl game

Could you imagine this fan base if he does coach it and we lose??? This site would crash beyond repair

I do not disagree, but at the same time Kelly is our coach and it will benefit the kids and him to coach the team.

I also would not see it as being stripped of a title because he can earn a spot on the staff with Kelly coaching the team and seeing how Brad Coaches the O-Line.

Don't think it's fair to have him in for that game.

What do you mean fair? Fair to who? He’s the head coach and his team is playing a game.

Michigan St hired Dantonio away from Cincinnati at the end of the 2006 season.

Cincinnati hired Brian Kelly from Central Michigan to replace Dantonio.

Kelly coached Cincinnati in their bowl game against Western Michigan. Kelly also faced Western Michigan in the regular season, so he beat them twice in 2006 as head coach of 2 different teams.

Why does he "deserve it? This is a business. This should go down exactly the way our $9 Million a year coach thinks it should go down.

Kelly is not coaching the bowl game, once and for all. We need another thread about it though

I prefer this.

Less melty threads from the rantards calling this a bad hire for every bad thing that happens.

That decision won't be made until they have a better idea of what the staff will look like...

Thank you! We are in the mess we're in because people "deserved" something, or knew someone. That is part of this coaching change I'm looking forward to most. Kelly has zero ties to anyone or anything down here. He's brought in to lead this program, not worry about feelings and sympathy hires. If Brad earns a spot on his staff by being observed in either capacity, so be it. But he deserves nothing.

Then why would he say he's definitely open to having a conversation with Woodward about it?

I would just as soon see him focus on recruiting than the bowl game with the early signing period fast approaching
