Getting into the NCAA is no big deal. Hey every body we are in the Top 68! doesn't cut it for me.

It's easier to win 20 games at NT than LSU.

not many but Cal has to offset other things.

If you offered the right amount of money combined with a strong commitment to basketball, I think you would have been surprised. I wish we could have canned TJ after the NIT so we could have made a run at Martin. Jones is no "diamond in the rough" like Billy was.

Damn shame Alleva didn't let those guys come to LSU.Cal never wins w/o superior talent and was badly out coached in '08 title game and had second final four vacated.Donavan has had superior talent the yrs he won at Florida. Four of five starters in NBA now. You still haven't given examples of Xs and Os superiority. JJ will recruit better talent and give LSU a chance to compete.Billy nor Cal would win with LSU's roster. What big name coach wanted to come to LSU?

would do better than Johnny Jones.

How proactive was LSU really in this search? If LSU opened their wallet, they could have got one of the mid major coaches or if the timing was right, Martin. This was the working of the dirty rotten to the core LSU politics that plagued the football program for years till Emmert came to LSU. Now that same type of dirty politics and doing it on the Joe Dean cheap are back. I cannot believe some of you cannot see the forest through the trees. Just trying to be realist. If jones has any success, it will be short lived.

What do you think lured Saban to LSU??? $$$. You pay it, they will come.

Bill self runs circles around Cal in terms of coaching. probably the best all around coach in college basketball imo. Cal did a good job at Memphis. Basically recruits like Daddy Dale but a better in game coach.

you honestly think the recruits that jones will drum up in S.E. Louisiana will be able to stay on the court with KY and Florida?

There is Texas, Memphis, LA, and Alabama. He has ties to all those areas.

None of us know who Alleva tried or did not try to get. It wasn't like all these big east type coaches were lining up for the job. We have Jones if he wins I don't give shite where he coached before. The argument about Xs and Os will have to be played out when we see him coach against similar talent. It is a hell of a lot easier to coach when your school draws the best talent. Either way I'm happy to see a former tiger get a shot.

this is a huge risk of a hire

Please explain why it is a "huge risk".
If you hadn't noticed, the BB program is in the crapper right now.
The worst that Jones could do would be to keep the program where it is.
There is nothing high risk about that.

Sure he'll win some, and LSU will remain in its current place as an SEC doormat with the occasional upset here and there.

You have absolutely nothing to base this remark off of. Nobody gives a shite about random opinions like that with nothing backing them up.

You sound like a hell of a fan btw.

I will support Jones, but no Sunbelt coach promoted to a major college has ever done well. Look at ARK. They need someone that can recruit outside of LA. When Brady was here there were 5 star BB recruits. Lately La BBall has been down to average.

He will certainly out recruit his predicessor. This is a good hire not a grand slam like you guys wanted but given timing it is certainly nothing to be pissed about. If he can get NTU to the tourney he can get LSU back him.

Just do no count on much for the first season. Regardless of my personal feelings about the guy, he has inherited a shitburger for a program and is at a bit of a recruiting disadvantage given the timing. JJ can at least blame the first season on TJ.
