Given his past history, it is just a matter of time before Alleva makes the football team take a year off based on unsubstantiated allegations of criminal conduct.

Les Miles gave his buddy a big pay increase and buyout, then fired him. This is on Les Miles. He should've never paid Stud that amount and he'd have the money to get whoever he wants.

we should still be able to get any coach we want. I refuse to believe that taf couldn't pony up money.

Dammit alleva
DO YOU GUYS NOT UNDERSTAND WE ARE GIVING 8 MILLION A YEAR TO THE ACADEMICS? why are we giving alleva a hard time and not the Governor for not funding academics?
We have paid 16 MILLION to academics from the athletic department over the last two seasons.
you think alleva would be worried about 600k to stud? That's beans to the 8 million.

quote:Who knows? We may never find out the specifics. My point is that Les Miles continually goes to our Administrators asking for pay raises for his employees. That implies that he thinks they are worth more money than we were paying them, and that we need to up their pay to keep them. Then a short time later, he's demoting said guy (letting him keep his inflated salary), hiring someone to replace him at a higher salary, then firing the original guy because he wasn't good enough?

Les Miles has done this several times. But in the past, these guys have been able to land other jobs which relieve LSU of the financial burden. Doing so gets Miles off the hook for initially making a bad hire and paying someone more than they are worth.
If Miles really wants Washington, he should re-distribute some of his massive $5 million a year salary to land him.

Because we are in the most competitive division in the most competitive conference, and coaching salaries are rising every year. If you are the AD who stops the spending, your school falls back.

And, the Stud/Krag thing was due to a last-minute major medical issue. I do think the Stud pay skewed us up to the highest paid staff in the country, or top 3. But, like I said, that was partly due to Stud getting a battle field promotion.

why is he having to worry about spending? because bama gets funding for the academics by their government. lsu does not. Alleva/miles has 8 million less year to operate on right off the bat. That's the major issue.

I thought washington was holding out for Jim Caldwell to get the Detroit job & washington would follow him.

Oh, and was it also Miles fault that Krags got sick? Didn't we all know Stud was a stop gap at OC? I really don't follow your logic.

This info is correct!
LSU is in a financial hole thanks to Jindal for basically reducing LSU academically to 1980 levels.
Athletics stepped up and instead of paying the 5% auxillary fee, they agreed to 8M/yr deal. Athletics also agreed to take over other responsibilities that previously belonged to academics as well, another 2M/yr.
Athletics also gained money from SEC tv, bowls distribution, bayou country superfest. But also decrease in concession sales and merchandise sales from previous yrs.

If this is true, and I'm not saying it is....Alleva would be bringing the same mentality that gave us Curley Hallman. We are in the most competitive division of the most competitive conference in college football and our AD would be nickle and dime-ing our attempts to just keep up.
I really cant see this being true.
This. Might as well just tell Miles to start looking around for another job where he'll get the necessary support to run the program. This isn't one of the minor sports, this is the cash cow and if you don't feed the cow you don't get the milk.
