where do the cuts go

The roster limit for baseball is supposed to be 34, but is it really 34? As far as I know, there have been no announcements as to whether redshirts or players injured for the year will count to the roster limit or get a roster exemption.

In addition, the Designated Student Athlete (DSA) rules as part of the House Settlement allow teams to Designate exempt roster spots for players who would have had spots had the rosters not been cut to 34. These roster exemptions can't be used on incoming freshman. Each school must make their designations by July 6th. In addition, there will be a one time portal opening for DSA's and if these players transfer, their new school must keep their roster spot designated. So we could cut some players, or place them on the DSA list, which gives them the right to transfer.

There will be redshirts taken out of the incoming freshmen/juco players to get under. The portal guys all have their spots guaranteed.

The thing to watch is going to be the third base competition. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not done there.

You sure you have that date right?

Per Ross Dellenger's Tweet

Then the Portal Window opens on July 7.

Special Portal Window

Of course much of the House Settlement remains in flux, so these designations have already been made, or maybe they granted extra time since these dates were dropped on them at the last minute.

Do any in that current list have their name in the portal?

I don't think so. I made an effort to exclude portal entries.

That is if teams will be able to use RS. That part of it seems to be unclear. Maybe the caches know something that hasn't been released yet.

Yes, agree, but it’s the nature of the beast. I’d imagine when they transfer here they were told you will have to win your spot. There are no guarantees. There is no other way to handle that. With this new era in NIL and paying players, it has turned it into a semi pro/pro atmosphere and you have to win your spot to make the roster or you don’t make the roster and you run the risk at getting cut.

How are you supposed to put names on that list when you don't even know the makeup of the current roster at that point?

You could just not sign more players than you have roster spots for... Like every other sport.

There is no other sport that signs more than they have room for and them waits until the season is about to start to cut kids after its to late to find a legitinate plan B.

My guess is that its going to be like others have said and players will be asked to red shirt as well as some injured guys won't count as well. There is no way any program would get legitimate transfers or HS talent without at least guranteeing them a spot on the team.

The SEC Rant will implode with the thought of LSU winning 3 Nattys in 4 years! Serraneaux, Cajunbama & most of the Longhorns & Aggies will perhaps find another school to troll on a daily basis. It will be epic! LFG!

Jay must have read Baseball america's article about winners/losers after the draf

Reality is in this new portal era only a couple of freshmen will be major contributors like Evan’s and Curiel. HS recruiting is important but not as critical as it was in the pre portal days. Good portal recruiting like what Jay does can offset HS players getting drafted high.

I think reasonable people lower their expectations post natty but good grief, this team w this coach, we’re a legit threat to win it all every single year.

LSU baseball is becoming what Bama football was under Saban and what Skip did here in the '90's/2000. Will come out ranked in the top 5 every season and win it all every second or 3rd season with the possibility of a repeat/three-peat thrown in there somewhere. JJ is chasing USC now and will leave here with LSU being the most successful baseball program in NCAA history.
