Jay is just different. Every single thing he does is done with the goal of winning baseball games.
We lucked out with the fact that he’s a likable guy and not an O’Sullivan

Skip Bertman won five College World Series championships and seven Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships in 18 years as head coach.
I can’t think of anyone else either lmfao

Jay has to be the smartest baseball coach we’ve ever had.

Putting Yorke at first base rather than DH is a head-scratcher that isn't a head-scratcher.

Obviously he is. He’s is 6-0 with this team of misfit's, and we don’t even have a quality weekend starting pitcher on our team. So yeah this is all on Jay. He’s elite

He changed the lineup with Beloso in the final game of the CWS a few years ago if I’m remembering correctly
Him and Dugas had .500 and .600 OBP's in Omaha. I thought for sure Dugas was going to lead off since he had done it before. Then I see the lineup and it's Beloso.

You must be young otherwise you would never say he’s the smartest but he’s definitely the closest to Skip you’ll get in my opinion.
Skip was worth an extra two to a few runs a game.
And that’s been said about him by some of the greatest coaches in college baseball history.

I would say we are lucky to have had the two best in Skip and Jay

The biggest in-game difference I have noticed between him and Paul is that I never get the sense that Jay is leaving his pitcher in too long. As soon as I start to notice that the other team might be figuring out our pitcher, and that he’s starting to struggle, Jay calls for a pitching change. Under Paul, he would frequently pull pitchers that were dominating only to let another pitcher languish on the mound while they were struggling, giving up 4-6 runs before making a change.
Jay’s staff seems to make the pitcher decisions at the right moment at a much higher rate than any coach I have seen.

If only there was some other coach who built the winningest program of the modern era that we could compare him to. Can't think of any.

The guys ability at flipping lineups, pitching rotations, and heck, even challenging specific plays that end up being overturned is incredible. Today is not an example of the last one but it’s happened at least a dozen times it’s happened. Genius baseball mind.
He is so smart, he is getting mentored by someone that was the greatest to ever coach the game.
Skip was by FAR a better pitching coach and frankly better at building from nothing, obviously, As far as Skip’s timing? Look no further than his time at Miami and calling the hidden ball trick. That play changed that game.
It was his impeccable timing that separated him from others. Skip would get himself tossed on purpose.
