We have an elite OL, elite WRs, strong RB room, and a QB that everyone admits would've been a starter at most P4 schools last year.

Hope you're right about "elite WRs" but they are a big question mark for me. Lacy looks poised for a breakout year. Everyone else is completely unproven.

Fact is 12 spots up for grabs and we have to feel like we should be in there more than not.

This is not totally true. There are 11 spots (since 1 is for the group of 5).
You have the 4 conference champs that get auto bids, so there are only 7 at large spots. A team will have to be in the top 10 at the end of the year and that is not a given that you will get in.

IMO should LSU be in the mix for a playoff spot every year? YES. Will they? Probably not.

I’m going to say huge disappointment if he doesn’t win the opener against USC. I think that will set the tone for the season.

Year 3 for BK. He has one of the best offensive lines in the history of the program and plenty of weapons to move the ball down the field. I say yes.

I would not call it a bust but it would be a big program momentum killer. BK has the stars a nd planets lining up. Underperforming will be a negative direction change

USC game will set the tone as a loss in game 1 would mean, realistically, they could only afford one more loss rest of the season. That will be extremely tough to do.

If they beat USC, I don’t see how they end up 9-3.

Losing 3 out of Ole Miss, Bama, A&M, & OU? That would be a huge disappointment.

Now if they lose to USC, I would not expect to make the playoff

I dont think it is a bust. I feel like this team is similar to 2018 team. Could easily see a finish of 9-3 or 10-2 and just outside after the auto bids. But positioned for a dominant run the following year.

I think most on here would agree, but some might disappointed with how difficult it is going to be to actually make the playoff.

I say yes. For all the money he’s being paid and all the hype there’s nothing wrong with expecting to be in the top 12 this year. Last year’s defensive catastrophe should remove any slack he may have had.

I am the biggest CBK supporter around but yes, this is what we have been waiting for; the playoffs to expand. And you can look for them to expand to 16 within 2-3 seasons.

I hate sounding like the idiots who were jumping on CBK year one but yes, it applies now. FOR TEN MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR … we need to be making the playoff a helluva lot more than we need to be missing it.

And it’s still frustrating that with any kind of fair to middling defense, we win a NC last season in CBK’s second year.

No.

You have to judge a team by its makeup year to year. Not on some arbitrary timeline. And I don't think this is a playoff team (though they have an outside shot because of a favorable schedule).

LAST YEAR was a bust. LSU had the horses. They were just sunk by terrible coaching on the defensive end. No, there wasn't enough talent to be a great defensive team. But the approach the DC took with what he had was truly awful. You'll NEVER be able to convince me that group wasn't talented enough to be ranked somewhere in the middle of the nation on the defensive end...which is all they would have had to be to make a 4 team playoff.

If the right guys stay after this season and the recruiting continues to be upper tier, next year will probably be the playoff year.

Not so much the 12 team field but it’s expanding to 14/16 in 26’ when contract is up. That would be unacceptable

I concur. A down year by our standards should be making the playoffs as a 10-12 seed.

Maybe by P&G glasses standards but not by realistic standards.

from 2020-2023 (24 years) we have had 11 top 12 BCS or CFP finishes going into the selection process, 3 were NCs plus we played for an NC in a 4th season.

2003 AP - 2, BCS 2
2004 AP - 12, BCS 11
2005 AP - 10, BCS 12
2006 AP - 4, BCS 4
2007 AP - 2, BCS 2
2009 AP - 13, BCS 12
2010 AP - 11, BCS 11
2011 AP - 1, BCS 1
2012 AP - 9, BCS 8
2018 AP - 11, CFP 11
2019 AP - 1, CFP 1

Here are the rest

2000 AP - 22, BCS NR
2001 AP - 12, BCS 13
2002 AP - NR, BCS NR
2008 AP - NR, BCS NR
2013 AP - 14, BCS 16
2014 AP - 22, BCS 23
2015 AP - 22, CFP 20
2016 AP - 19, CFP 20
2017 AP - 16, CFP 17
2020 AP - NR, CFP NR
2021 AP - NR, CFP NR
2022 AP - 16, CFP 16
2023 AP - 13, CFP 13

By those standards, we should probably expect to be in every other season but to be competing for that spot pretty much every season.

In the last 24 years of our resurgence, we only have 1 5 year period where we would have made it 4 of 5 times (‘03-‘07). We have 2 3-year stretches where we would have made it 3 straight season (‘05-‘07) and (‘10-‘12).

So starting in ‘00, in the past 24 seasons, these are the only teams that would have made it:

‘01
‘03
‘05
‘06
‘07
‘10
‘11
‘12
‘19

So 9 times out of 24. 37.5%. During the golden era. And 5 of those 9 were before Bama’s run started, and 8 of those were before Georgia’s.

***Now you could make an argument that the ‘15 team would have made it. They sort of went in the tank after going into to Tuscaloosa ranked #2 and getting spanked and lost their next 2 to Arkansas and Ole Miss. Had they still had something to play for, they may have fought back and won at least one of them and got in.

So let’s give them that year and make it 10 out of 24 seasons. 41.6%. Which is outstanding. But it’s still less than once every 2 years. I think some of you need to temper expectations. Not that high expectations are bad—we should have high expectations—but we shouldn’t deem every season we don’t make it a bust and want to fire any coach that goes 2 years without making it. Life’s too short and shite happens.

"Next Year U" ...I just dont see it. This roster will roster will have more turnover than last season's roster.

Youre basically replacing the entire offensive line after this season with the opening game at Clemson with road games at Bama & Ole Miss.

If he cant finish in the top 11 this season, people will start calling him LSU's version of Mark Richt.
