Can you elaborate? Little before my time

Charles McClendon and Jerry Stoval we’re both fired largely because of losses to Tulane. Charlie MAC was likely on his way out anyway after some mediocre years, but the loss to Tulane sealed the deal. The blowout loss in 1981 was pretty much the end for Stoval. He had a better team in 1982 (beat three teams in the top ten), but still lost to Tulane and that set up the disaster of 1983 and his departure. Tulane is credited as being a big reason both were let go.

The only ones who see Tulane as a rival are old people. Just like the only LSU fans who hate ULL are the ones who have to live among the ragin Cajun die hards.

I am a graduate from USL (BS) and LSU (medical school) and thoroughly enjoyed attending both institutions. I cheer for the Cajuns except when they play LSU.

If someone today told Tulane supporters from 40 years ago this is where they’d be,

Forty plus years ago the Tulane student senate was attempting to get the administration to drop football. Very few wins & many wanted the money spent on football to go to academics.

I hate that we are so willing to play charity games against the FCS teams in state but not Tulane.

Better the money go to public instate teams than Tulane. They need the funds.

Tulane athletics are a complete joke.

It’s almost like they consider themselves a University instead of a semi-professional sports program with a school attached.

other universities (several ranked higher than Tulane academically) manage to have respectable athletic programs. Those schools even win National Titles in some sports.

May upvote if you were able to replace Tulane with Alabama or even Notre Dame...

They have no alumni support because most of their graduates aren’t from here and don’t give a shite about sports after college.

To be fair, when they were in college at Tulane, they didn’t give a shite about sports either.

Tulane has no fans, aside from baseball. There aren’t many, but they exist and are loyal.

Similar problem to Rice. Even with their past baseball success and tradition, almost zero real support from students and alumni compared to other baseball programs in Texas. Has to be all the transplants.

I attended the Regional Championship game between them and the Cajuns at U of H back in 2015. Felt bad for their players, because even right there in the middle of Houston with a Super Regional bid on the line, our fans probably outnumbered there's 8 to 1 or 10 to 1.

I guess like Tulane, Rice gets a bunch of out of state and international students who really don't care about athletics while in school, and so obviously don't support their sports as alumni after graduation.

They even freaking stole Mike the Tiger in New Orleans the night before the LSU-Tulane game from what I read. That was a great story.

They also let Mike out of his cage in BR one year. Campus police found him at night on Nicholson Dr chewing on a pine tree

My godfather was part of some group or guys that was pretty mixed Tulane and LSU. I don’t know if it was just a group of bar buddies or what.. anyway, I saw a picture of him in some family album pounding beers sitting in a wheelbarrow in purple and gold while his Tulane buddy pushed him around uptown NOLA for a pub crawl. Must have been 40-50 guys being carted around picture looked like early 80s

Bars and the old booster clubs that met in them had these. It was a phenomenon all over southeast Louisiana. Of course with so many neighborhood bars in uptown New Orleans back then it was everywhere, same on the West Bank.

I think most of those booster clubs have died off, too. :( You never realize what you have until it's gone.
