If he wins two more SECCs and one more NC, he can rightfully be considered the best coach in LSU history. Win/Loss record is important but mostly secondary filler. The point is to win championships and that's how a coach should be judged.
I agree with this.

So you hold 10 win seasons against him because they play more games but completely ignore the fact that with up to 3 fewer games played there is less opportunity to lose. Seems legit.
No I addressed that. The modern schedule has 3 built in cupcake wins.

.798 winning percentage over 9 years says to shut up and go away.

Saban and Arnsparger were .750 over much less time & McClendon was .692.

Your definition of great is near perfection: 1 loss or none. That's an impossible standard for anyone to hold.

There's a lot of problems with the analysis, but let's just hit the big ones:

Schedules used to be a lot shorter. Miles plays a 13 game season. We played 12 games from 1977-2000 and 11 games from 1934-1976. Before that, it was 10 games or less.

It counts ties as wins. Those are negative results, or at least not wins. One of those seasons (1933), LSU went 7-0-3. Yes, LSU went unbeaten, but it's not the same as going 10-0.

Average every 7.46 years? Well, that's heavily weighted to the shorter seasons of the early 20th century for an obvious reason (and why exclude 1901-1907?). From the beginning of the Chollie Mack Era in 1962, there were five such seasons. That's five in over fifty years.

Arbitrary endpoints. Of course, the reason you chose "less than 2" is to exclude Miles' FOUR 2-loss years. If we add two words to your criteria, it changes radically: less than OR EQUAL 2 losses. All of a sudden, Miles has 5 such seasons. In the 1977-2004 time period, it happened four times. From the 1934-76 time period, it happened 13 times (demonstrating that it was easier).

So, Miles losses per season crushes LSU in the 12 game era starting in 1977 and is at a better rate (5 of 9 times) than in the 11 game era from 1934-76.

Miles has a winning percentage of .798, just shy of 80%. LSU has had 17 season of a winning percentage at 80% or greater before Miles. Miles has done it five times.

Good stuff, Baloo. That really should end this thread. Although, I'm sure it will go on for about another 20 pages.

I've learned to ignore assholes like the OP. They have their own personal agendas and axes to grind, which is fine, just leave the rest of us out of it. If LSU football and Les Miles in particular displease you so much, then GTFO. I am observant and realistic enough to realize that we are currently living "the good old days" and am just enjoying the ride. Join me if you like, or don't. It doesn't matter. Life is too short to bitch about trifling shite like the ratio of 2 loss seasons the coach has.

Thusfar.

And I hate "if's and but's" as much as the next guy, but had RP managed to not have his head up his arse, Miles record would prolly look much more positive, if not elite.

My god you're stupid. Why dont you just use winning percentage?

Here ya go...very simple.

Before Les Miles, LSU's winning percentage was 63.8%

Les Miles' winning percentage at LSU is 79.8%.

That's a pretty significant jump.

The true measuring stick for Miles is losses per season.
I've been saying this for years. Of note is the relative importance of the games lost ("must-win" games) and their impact on the final standings.

Teams that won at least 10 games last year: 19

I love 'em. It's great fun to look up just how awesome we've been under Miles. I love reliving the Golden Age of LSU football. This just gives me an excuse to look at the accomplishments and say, "Wow."

Two reasons:

1) Miles' win percentage would put him in the "great" category; and

2) the OP is not the sharpest knife in the kitchen.

BTW, for the OP, back when LSU and others played a ten-game schedule, they played a 6-game conference slate, so there were the same number of OOC games as today, meaning a higher percentage of cupcakes on the schedule.

Math class - might want to stay awake the next time the teacher is discussing percentages/ratios.
