There are the obvious Blue Bloods:
Bama
Mich
Ohio St
USC
OK
TX
ND
Penn St
Tenn
GA

Are we considered a Blue Blood team?

Tenn has more SEC championships than LSU, and was lone #2 until GA tied them last year.

Edit:
I stand corrected, GA didn’t win the SEC last year

I would easily rank ahead of Penn st and Tennessee, so yes they are a historically top 10 team.

I’d argue LSU has jumped Tenn and Ga.

USC hasn’t been shite in nearly 20 years, but are major Blue Bloods.

ND hasn’t won a NC in 34 years, but are major Blue Bloods.

LSU is only #4 in SEC championships, and record is basically 800-400-47. That’s averaging 8 wins, 4 loses, & .5 ties per year. Is this resume strong enough to be a Blue Blood?

Blue Blood = Used to be good. These are the teams that dominated football when there was much less parity and a lot more cheating. LSU was on the outside most of those years particularly the 70s and 80s. We are definitely a "Blue Blood" now.

This is a silly question, because there are no such things as college football bluebloods. You can make a list of the most successful programs in history, but you’ll be surprised at the terrible teams that are near the top - like Army and Harvard.

You can give more weight to recent success, but now it depends on your weighting. All of this is to say, it’s a matter of opinion.

I can promise you that, around the country, LSU is considered one of the top five programs.

Absolutely yes. I don't think they were in that top tier prior to 2000 but I think the body work put together post 2000 has put them in the blue bloods.

I ask this question. Why would you say these schools are obvious

Texas
Penn state
Tennessee
Georgia

and not LSU?

Meh. Kind of a mixture of blue blood and modern powerhouse.

I actually consider Army as a Blue Blood team because of their history, but if I put them in my OP, people would have lost their minds.

Coach Dietzel actually left LSU for Army because of the prestige. It was up there with coaching ND.

Blue Bloods:

Bama
OSU
Mich
TX
OU
ND

Borderline:

Penn St

Nebraska
Tennessee

Next Level Down:

Army

The Florida schools, Oregon, Oklahoma State, are all new money and therefore not eligible.

If Penn State and Georgia are, then we most certainly are.

ETA: And where’s Nebraska?

Historically LSU is on the border line or right inside of a Top10 program all time. Last 20 years a Top5 lock. Currently I think from a branding , fan support, money, media following, and winning tradition perspective there's about 20 schools in a blue blood league of their own. Another 20 or so schools with blue blood potential, then everybody else.

Modern day but haven’t yet earned a true seat at the table. Partly attributable to our isolated market.

We love our tigers fiercely but are just gaining outside fandom.
