Baton Rouge long term outlook

Posted by Outback Ray on 4/24/26 at 11:09 am
Almost 40, I have young kids. I do love a lot about Baton Rouge, and it's home. But all my extended fam beyond my folks, are from or live elsewhere. I know places have their ups and downs. I know BR isn't rated super high on the best places to live and I'm really not keen on living anywhere else in the state. But man yesterday shook me, I have a little girl. I can't imagine the grief and anger that family is feeling. Pain / Tragedy can find you anywhere I get that, but my mind works logically and you don't want to overexpose yourself to being unsafe. To be frank Baton Rouge just "feels" so different than it did even 20 years. I know everyone says that as they age but I don't think it's just because I'm older.

Ive pretty much stopped going out at night to places besides restaurants a few years before COVID. It was so expensive and a hassle with young kids. But geez so much of culture hubs / city life has become just miserable or unsafe feeling. Almost creepy and seedy. Nothing feels beautiful, nothing feels happy. My favorite remaining parts of BR are Highland Road Park / LSU lakes, nature helps with that.

But I'm thinking I might not stay. I don't want to raise my kids, thinking every-time they go out when they are older, they are at MORE unneeded risk, than if I were in another place with less crime. It's all so depressing. Our life and home is in a pretty safe bubble. But I am growing tiresome of what's outside.

Is there any feasible hope for BR to improve in the next 5 to 10 years?
FSU just needs to get the heck out of the ACC. They will be relevant again once they can align in a new conference. I think Clemson is screwed. That ride is over.
I think LSU has more financial support under this leadership and the governor play a big role in that. There is actually some really big dollar boosters people don't know about that have emerged. Also I think based on the guys they brought in, a lot of them are multi year players. So I don't think we spend nearly as much NEXT off season.

If all plays right and Land can win on the field. LSU will be bringing in more money than they ever have before.
I have heard some rumors, but not sure how accurate.
With the LSU brand, tradition, and Hall of Fame players, our Basketball program should be so much better.

Not sure if it's the old guard trying to control everything, or just lazy ATROCIOUS hires. But at least Will Wade wanted to be great here. The passion was back, the basketball was imperfect; but the desire / belief / interest was back.

I have never understood the level of incompetence by the powers at be to not getting behind a money making sport.

As a basketball fan, it's such an insult how little care / effort there it

The only thing to save this pathetic queer feminist power trip show is to kill everyone ... please just kill them all let the bad guy win
Kinda meh, no real charismatic like Billy or Eddie to be the icing. It has potential to close really well, but I think breaking it up was a bad idea. Should have been all the episodes BUT the finale. If people sour on it it's not going for driving viewership,
I don't like massive deviations from source material, either write a completely different story, or stay faithful, don't mix it

Aspects of this film I really loved, starts really strong but ultimately in the end it's not that good.
A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite works of Literature even though it's seasonal the material is so incredible and very human. Johnny Depp is interesting casting. I usually prefer a Brit, but it could work. With Johnny I think it should tilt a little darker and more gothic. A warm brassy version with Jack Sparrow could be a silly hot mess.

Willem Dafoe would be an amazing choice to play Scrooge
Their defense was athletic and FLYING around, they will crush weaker ACC teams. Their QB is a really athletic tough player. Made some big plays a lot of QBs can't.

This is not the best team, we have played in the Kelley era. But on paper it's top 5, and on the road to open the season. Epic win.

1) Florida St 23
2) Bama 22
3a 3b) Bama 23 / Ole Miss 24
5a 5b) Tenn 22 / Clemson 25
Miami is NEVER coming to the SEC. I think Kansas has a better chance than them. Miami does not make the league any more money. I'm even iffy on FSU Clemson even joining. The targets are UNC and Virginia. You only take FSU Clemson, if you feel the BIG10 is coming for them, I actually think they could end up in BIG12
Half of the league will satisfy their P4 OOC in last week of season.

Kentucky / Louisville
South Carolina / Clemson
Georgia / Georgia Tech
Florida / Florida St

Ole Miss / Miss St
Texas / Texas A&M
Alabama / Auburn
Tennessee / Vanderbilt

Unless Oklahoma wants to schedule bedlam to end the year every year. It would leave us

Even Years
Missouri / Arkansas
LSU / Oklahoma

Odd Years
Missouri / Oklahoma
LSU / Arkansas

Y'all crazy to think TV is going to pay more money for LSU Bama or LSU Florida NOT to be annual. So Bama can play Miss St lol. You're asking more money for 16 more slots of high end inventory, SEC honestly needs the money.

BIG10 has lots of bad teams but they are in MASSIVE markets that generates some big time money.
I think it depends on what becomes more important to the league More valuable inventory or new markets.

If you gave me a choice between 9 SEC games, and schedule 3 of the weakest teams possible

Then having a 8 game SEC season and play Oregon / West Virginia or UCLA / USC

Yeah ... bring on 9 with McNeese and Nichols
TV Brass is NOT letting an Alabama / LSU or Florida / LSU annual game get off the docket.

This is about more quality matchups.

3 annual opponents makes the last game of the season interesting A&M will play Texas to end the season. Arkansas probably would stick with Mizzou(an actual rival for them to end the season with so good for them) Our 3 perms are almost certainly between Ole Miss, A&M, and Bama/UF, and they all have rivals to end the season Probably keep Oklahoma the 2 years they're on the schedule. But what about the other 2. Legit have no clue

Kentucky / SCAR / Georgia / Florida have the annual ACC rival

Texas / TA&M - Bama / Auburn - Egg Bowl

Oklahoma should play bedlam

We should rotate Missouri and Arkansas

Battle of The Boot

Battle of The Bigger Boot LOL

For TV networks the more games involving

Oklahoma
Texas
LSU
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Georgia
Florida

Playing each other, the better. Doesn't even matter if they are having good season. Those 9 will drive the money the conference can make. All schools who have won and competed for national titles in the modern era.

Depends on how much TV dictates.

Also remember there are 6 other games. Those with easy annual will have brutal rotating
