Defense is only as good as its offense. Defense stopped Ole Miss on several occasions but offense couldn’t produce any points.

Blake is gone. Why would he stay here? I doubt the new coach will retain him.

Although I think he is above average, he may indeed be average. But he is the best we have by quite a bit.

And that is the problem.

but the defense really shite the bed in the Vandy and ole miss loss.

Tell me what if anything the offense has done in that time period? The defense cant play the whole game by themselves…

If we lose Baker, Williams, Raymond and any others we might want to keep, so be it. The new coach might bring in better coaches.

I’d like to see a comparison of minutes played DEFENSE vs OFFENSE.

I’m betting that 2 things are possible:

1) The team as a whole is NOT as strong & resilient under this S&C coach/program

2) thus, a defense playing more snaps because of an inept offense, helped contribute to the higher scores they gave up.

Watch the Vandy vs UT game. UTs front 4 held the Vandy QB in check all game. Didn’t overplay the edges and maintained containment.

There is a huge drop off in level of play between UTs front 4 and LSUs.

I don't think this defense's problem is necessarily the coordinator. We've played 3 of the top 4 offenses in the sec. The number one defense before last night was Oklahoma and they gave up 400 yards passing, 6 yards a play and 27 points while even creating 3 turnovers last night to Tennessee. Sellers, Pavia, Reed, Chambliss might be the top 4 most mobile, playmaking qbs in the country. Not having your starting Lb and injuries along the defensive line have really hurt ya as well. We are #3 in passing yards allowed, #5 in points allowed. There are some positives. Losing Deebo Atkins this spring hurt more than anything. We have to start hanging on to these guys.

Yes, you're correct. Mis spoke. Watching Vandys Te's eat us up all game with him out was tough to watch. The impact of loosing him for that game in particular can't be overstated.

In hindsight, when was this defense ever elite?

Also lack of dynamic pass rushers hurt. Gooden injury, reliford and butler in addition to Whit’s injury came at worse time. Baker is solid - not great.

My thought was how elite can a defense be when we have a 3 and out offense? Over the course of a season those extra 12-15 defensive snaps a game ad up.

His defense got lit up the minute we started facing mobile QBs. The defense has no clue how to contain a mobile QB and frankly it’s mind-boggling. We over rush and take bad angles every damn time.

Weeks was a big loss but Baker is too aggressive as a DC! Running qbs burn the crap out of Baker. I wish we could get Aranda back as DC.

Good. He can take his bloated salary for near the middle of the conference elsewhere

Despite the money we spent in the portal, the only area of our defense that was greatly improved was the secondary.
The defensive line was a major disappointment even though they were improved from last year. Some of our defensive ends might get drafted, but they just aren't very productive. I respect Guillory, but he is not a very good player. Gooden has played fairly well, but he is too small as is Breaud. McKinley showed improvement, but he does not make many plays. Mathis played well for a true frosh. The only really good linebacker is Whit Weeks, but I think he should become a STAR and get out of the middle.
I think Baker is better than average, but you have to have much more talent in the first two levels.

I mean, I’ll watch the draft, but will Whit even be in it? He’s a Jr., and definitely not a first round pick. I’m assuming he will be back next year to try and improve his stock.

Baker hasn’t been that great. If you forget the feeling after the Clemson game then what has he done? Injuries are partially to blame but we still have no solution for a mobile QB. Now maybe the team quit but that’s a reflection of Baker too.
