I admit there are a few things in life that terrify me. Who is playing cornerback for LSU isn't one of them.

The skills he worked on at corner while cross-training will help him in Nickel, and not be totally lost if he has to play outside in emergency

Why single out Ryan specifically?
I worry about any CB in the red zone against a WR that size.

Well for one, the OP specifically asked about Sage Ryan. Two, he hasn't played CB since he's been here, so it worries me more than a guy that has been playing CB for his whole life. Third, he's undersized and I'd rather a guy that is taller be lined up 1v1 on a taller receiver.

The implication is that there might not be a "right guy".

In 2019 summer practice, our offense absolutely was dotting up our defense. Hell, stories have come out from Patrick Queen about how the defense used to celebrate getting stops in practice because how often the defense got burned. We had stories from the media who saw practice who said this might be the worst defense we had every assembled, and they weren't sure how we fell off so quickly with the stars on our team.

Guess what? Our defense wasn't the best all year, but pretty damn good, and excellent when it truly mattered. The offense was just that good.

Should you be worried that Sage is a DB? Sure. But just because he's our best option, doesn't mean it won't be good enough to win games. Sage doesn't need to be an All American at DB. We have a strong front 7, and if Sage just doesnt give up the big plays, we'll be fine.

Les Miles was highly paid and played DJ Welter over Kendall Beckwith for like 3 years

Miles was also half retarded. We now have a grown up running the program.

totally. I thought the worst aspect of his game was coverage and now he’s one of our best 2 cover guys ? I’m scared.

Also, the coaches evaluated Mike Jones as one of our best 2 LB’s to start off last year. Turns it out he was not one of our top 4.

The change could be good for him and could light it up and live up to his hype as a player no matter what position

You’re full of shite.

I’m not worried; I like the kid. I think he played fairly well last year, and he should be better this season.

I agree. In good position most of the time. He is a good tackler and Kelly puts a premium on this. The knocks as far as I see. He doesnt have great ball awareness and he doesn't have length. He's noticeably "stumpier" than our other DBs. I hope he turned the corner this year.

Not terrified. Concerned? Somewhat. It’s not like he’s been a great cover guy. Good tackler and maybe he’s shown the coaches he’s ready for CB. I still think he’s our NB unless Duce or Zy are unavailable.

Why do we never expect growth from our young guys.
Sage is just a redshirt sophomore this season.

He has 3 years left to cement his legacy.

Look at how ward and flirt turned out. Give our guys a chance to fully develop.

Sage was a five star by every publication for a reason.

Nobody is saying he can't get better.

He was a five star safety. He has been playing safety for the past two years and now all of a sudden he might be our starting corner. That's why there is reason for concern.

Anonymous poster is so troubled that he expressly cites the real name of a player in order to draw sympathy and words of support from other anonymous posters who are just as wimpy as he/she is.

Its time to stop the goddamned hysterics about Sage Ryan and the defensive backfield in general every fricking day. These are all highly recruited and high caliber players, some who have already proven themselves at this level. Some of you only remember the time they got beat for a touchdown by equally skilled players but totally ignore the many times they provided great coverage and made big plays. Let it play out and give it a few games before freaking out. How did the defensive backfield look to some of you at this time last year? How did they look at the end of the season? Didn't several get drafted or invited or signed as undrafted rookies?
