LSU hit 188 HR in 1 year. B Larson had 40 and was 2nd in the NCAA to Lance Berkman
You’re referring to the 1997 season which was the height of the juiced bat era (-5 2 3/4 barrel). Still though, LSU’s hitters were absolute studs.
That 1997 season was two years before the bats changed to -3 2 5/8 barrel

Negative. There was no back and forth. The last straw was the 1998 season when the championship game score in Omaha was like 21-14
I think you are misunderstanding me. They only used the -5 bats for 3 or 4 years, they started in 95 maybe 94 or so and the last year was 1998. I’m pretty sure they went to -3 in 99 and used -3 before. They did not use -5 from the beginning until 98 so there was some back and forth

Velocity isn’t a barometer on pitching ability at all.
Velocity’s important.
Velocity and movement are even more important. Give me a guy that can bring it at 92 mph and can spot his pitches over the guy w/ the flat 98 mph heater any day. Hitters eventually find a way to get the bat head around on the second guy.

Have to agree and I've always thought that Nola had the best moment I've ever seen in person. He's refined that movement since starting in the pros and those hitters have to feel the loss even before going up to the plate. He's just that good. Now he won't blow it past you like some can but be can still put up great velo as well. He can catch someone looking breaking ball and get it by him pretty easily.
As a pitcher velo matters only if you can't actually pitch, like hit spots, throw different speeds, while also having different breaking balls. Aaron actually has two different fast balls like most pitchers do but his two seam is deadly when you mix it correctly, the hitter almost has to guess. It can look exactly like the four seam but break in, out, or down. He's so accurate that he can place the two seam, four seam, curve, and change up in the same spot making them all look like the same pitch but they all have totally different breaks. His two seam is more like a split finger fastball, where it breaks to the side or down. It's just nasty.
Then he has a beautiful curve that he can throw for a strike or in the ground. He's developed his change up also which just makes him very tough to hit. You almost have to sit on a pitch with him, hope you get it or hope you get lucky with two strikes. I love both the pitchers though. Big Ben was a dominating force out there and could just take over a game, from shear will.

Ben...in a time when the bats were a bit juiced...was absolutely sick. 6’7” and all arms and legs coming at the batter with serious heat was more impressive to watch than Nola. But Nola was a better “pitcher” imo...so I think it’s just best to call them 1A and 1B...don’t know who is what though

He's as good as any...probably had the best control I've seen at LSU.

Wow, this is a tough one and a great topic. I've seen both pitch. Ben was a physically intimidating can't miss prospect. Nola was a surgical crafty can't miss prospect.
Nola had the better numbers in his LSU career and it seemed like he'd win every time he started. With Ben you were going to get a show of power like no other. With Aaron, you were going to watch brilliance.
I guess it depends on whether you like Randy Johnson or Greg Maddox better. While I would rather watch Randy and Ben throw it as a spectator, if I needed a pitcher to win a game or lose my life, I'd take Maddox and Nola.

Greatness = titles
Greatest LSU pitcher is laxton.
Dont care about stats or pro career.

For 1 season give me ‘92 and Lloyd Peever.
He was so damn good that year. Wish we had him for 3 instead of just 1.

No. Austin Nola has a title, Bergman doesn’t. I love Nola, but he won’t be remembered among the best of LSUs shortstops, Bergman will.

Ben could throw Home from 405 on his knees

Best MLB LSU baseball player is Albert Belle then... dude was on his way to the Hall of Fame before his hip injury.
