I heard Brady Quinn on the radio this morning who said from people he talked to linked to BK, he has very little interest in coaching again. So that leaves us on the hook for the full 54 million despite the mitigation clause, which BK intends to collect all of. He also said his priorities are golf and wine instead of football which lines up with everything reported during his tenure as our coach.
At 65, with millions in the bank
why coach? we all only have so much time left on this planet...
If I had millions, I would shut down my business and find something else to do
clients are difficult to please
so are players and fanbases

shite he wasn’t interested in coaching the last 14 months. Why would it change now?

Yeah, it says “seek”, he doesn’t have to accept and actually coach. Unfortunately.

It says a lot that Franklin already has another job, but BK has sailed off into the sunset likely to never be heard from again.
James Franklin is over a decade younger than BK and he went to a program thats a clear step down from where he was and Penn State only had to pay him $9M in his buyout.
It doesnt say anything at all.

If he is turning down legit offers will be very hard for him to argue that he is acting in good faith.

He had very little interest when he left ND. Woodward did not do enough due diligence to know he was already telling people around him that he was going to coach 2-3 more years.

Did Orgeron have the same language?

I am curious as to what qualifies as "proof" that he is trying to find work.
He could just go full George Costanza when he was trying to keep his unemployment checks.

Meh. Every coach says that and then they take a year off and the blood gets going again.
O waited until the final year of his payoff before deciding he wanted to coach again.
Translation: a fired head coach often cares more to frick over the program that fired him for the right price and will drag it out as long as possible.

Would a judge buy that "The winning-est coach in college football" can't find a job?
maybe.

He has an obligation to mitigate it.

Enjoy your 6 year payout and Godspeed coach.

If he seeks and is offered and chooses not to take the job to just stay home and play golf, I would argue that's seeking "in good faith".

To be fair, Orgeron didn’t have any offset/duty to mitigate language in his contract. Meaning LSU was going to be paying him regardless. In fact, his separation agreement with LSU technically said he still worked for us until his contract was up.

Wrong. Plain wrong. Amazingly, incredibly wrong.
If he fails to pursue jobs in good faith LSU can avoid some or all of the buyout. That’s the whole point of the clause. It may require a lawsuit, but we are not stuck simply because he wants to retire.

No he didn't.

He will still need to make “good faith” efforts to find a job. He can’t just stop working and get the money. He could get a media job that requires little work and get paid and still do the things he wants. He can’t just interview for a bunch of jobs and wait for the perfect fit either in effort to “retire”.
He’s still not officially fired either, so we will see what happens.

I think that football has lost interest in him. I watched a video that kind of summarized all of shitty moves throughout his career and oof. His poor last season with us I think is what shut the door for good.

I can't imagine who would hire him.
Posted on 11/19/25 at 10:25 am to GeauxLSU4
He has a duty to mitigate. And he doesn't attempt to mitigate, I think LSU may have a future case. If this doesn't get negotiated.
Look at James Franklin as Case #1. He just mitigated most of PSU's LDs.
Hire a young up and comer. Give him an incentive-laden contract. In this coaching cycle.... if I were Verge, that's my approach.
