In retrospect this team probably overachieved

Obviously all of the pundits picked us to be 6-6 to 8-4 at best

If I told you before the season the following:

1. Chaisson would be injured in the first game and out for the year

2. Giles would be almost non existent in the passing game

3. We wind up with the 5th best rush defense in the SEC

Would you have believed that LSU would be 9-3 with 2 out of those 3 losses being very competitive? And of all 9 wins only one was ever really in doubt (AU)

I wouldn't believe any of that for a second. I'd think the 7-5 predictions might be more believable

9-3 is not overachieving at LSU. Not this year not ever.

Considering the circumstances the team probably overachieved quite a bit.

No. LSU is not the only team with injuries or good teams on their schedule.

Look I like this team, and they overcame some adversity, but 9-3 is 9-3. You are what your record says you are. Not a bad season per se but 9-3 is not overachieving at LSU.

The fact of the matter is that we underachieved relative to talent. We overachieved by manhandling UGA, absolutely, but we should have taken care of business against AM and UF. However, if we win a NY6 I think everyone should be over the moon about that.

There were actually posters on this board who said that between Thornton and Anthony’s production, LSU “wouldn’t miss him”.

LSU has had a non existent passing game for 5 season now. It is the rule not the exception.

The SEC year in year out fields some of the best defenses in the country. Where does it rank nationally?

I suppose I could tell you a lot of things

MSU, TAMU turned out to be pretty solid teams and Alabama turned out to be much better than anyone anticipated

did you also tell me before the season that Miami and Auburn would both be unranked teams with 5 losses each?

because even if you don’t want to admit it, those teams’ projections did play into LSU’s projections.

If I told you that Jonathan Giles would have 59 receiving yards on the season there is probably a 0% chance you would have believed that

Many people expected him to be our leading WR this year

No matter how bad our passing game has been no one expected that little contribution from him

agree-

WRs who cannot catch a football
OL below average to average
RBs who cannot break a tackle

Yes.
Outside of Greedy, Devin and Delpit this was one of the worst teams we’ve had in a while.

The lack of production from Giles has been the biggest negative surprise this season given all the hype and getting #7 before the season. He just looked slow and lacked that twitch muscle explosion that we all were expecting.

Why do you people continue to measure our success by preseason expectations? This is complete bull shite.

If you want to use expectations as a measure of our success, look at the week to week expectations. We won a couple of games that people expected us to lose, but we also lost a couple of games people expected us to win.

We at best met expectations. The only game we won that was "overachieving" was Georgia. But it's tough to get overly excited about that when we lost two other games we were supposed to win.

A bowl win would make this a decent year. But GTFO with all of this "overachieving" bull shite.

but but but.....I've been told by this board all season that those are Top 10 wins, because those teams were ranked there at the time we played them.

Nonsense, of course.

You know, I'm not sure what to think of the team. Your post suggests a deterioration of talent which is not a good sign. To me, this year was reminiscent of Archer's second year. We still won a fair number of games, actually shared the SEC title (I think) but you could see the team starting to get pushed around and you wondered how good the team really was absent some hold-over talented players.

I like our schedule next year and the fact that Burrow will be back as well as the WRs (who I hope just need a little more experience). However, the reality is I can't see how or when LSU is going to elevate to the next level which was why I thought we replaced Miles. I find myself hoping we can maintain 8 and 9 win seasons while we wait for Saban and O to retire.

The delusion is so strong.

We really have fans that think going on the road this year at Florida and A&M should be routine ho hum wins. Just take care of business like it’s the same as playing at Arkansas this year. Unreal.

Ignore that part and read everything below it and it still makes sense

Sure. But it's not like we shite the bed in those games. Both of those games were highly competitive and winnable.
