He may look like genius in a couple years. However, he can look like the biggest dumbass in a couple years as well.

That guaranteed contract to Jimbo is equally reckless as it is bold. I would hate to know the university would be held hostage due to a frivolous contract if a coach does not succeed.

While he gets a lot of recognition for hiring Jimbo, if Jimbo doesn’t produce in three years, it will cost Woodward his job as well.

While I believe the contract is ridiculous for Jimbo, A&M isn't going to be held hostage to it. They have FU money.

He's a mediocre AD with no spending limit making him look a little better.

Then again, a mediocre AD would be a massive improvement over Joe Alleva.

What about him pulling Chris Peterson from Boise St to Washington when blue bloods like USC couldn't?

The contract to Jimbo was made possible through boosters/big money donors saying they would pony up if necessary, he just did what they backed basically there.

Would be hilarious though if he came here, and 3 years from now Jimbo hasnt done a damn thing and they are on the hook for like a $45M buyout.

Well known fact Peterson wanted to stay in the North West.........Washington fit the bill, but you have to remember he also hired Sarks drunk arse before that.....

This.

Woodward didn't just pledge $75 million of his own money or money he didn't have from the donors/boosters. He was essentially given a blank check from the powers that be with instructions to hire Fisher. I'm sure he's smart enough to known a fully guaranteed $75 mill contract carries some big risk. But when the people holding the purse-strings tell you to spend it, you do.

I don't like defending Alleva much, but he doesn't have complete unilateral control over the athletic department. He still answers to higher-up's within the university. If they tell him they aren't going to sign off on his financial decisions, then there is not a ton he can do.

considering UW went bowl-less 7 years prior to Sark, I'd say he had a successful tenure.

and the drinking problems didn't rear its head until his USC days, so you're not gonna pin that one on Woodward.

SW took a chance on a young up and coming OC from USC, hired Peterson from Boise, hired Fisher to A&M, hired Buzz Williams as well.

You guys mention A&M resources, while LSU doesn't come close to what they have, I would bet you would see a nice uptick in donations and resource commitments if Scott came back home.

The contract he gave to Jimbo was one made out of desperation. It was the ultimate risk / reward situation. I can’t really say I blame him because Aggies had lost a lot of the momentum they gained by joining the sec and were cementing themselves as mid level program here just like they were in the big 12. However unless jimbo starts competing for playoff spots this year people will turn on the pair of them quickly.

Unless y'all are ready to start writing more checks to the TAF, I don't see Woodward even being an option.

The current AD at Washington made that happen. Don’t be fooled. There is a reason Jen Cohen got the job.

A&M has money to burn. They aren't going to be held hostage by anything. Woodward is smart enough to know that athletics are an investment that will return much more $ to the university than any other investment they can make. Not try to make cheap hires like LSU in the 1980s.

His mom lives in BR, a lot of his other family is here, he's a member at BRCC, an alum, and a lifelong LSU fan.

He isn't taking a pay cut, but I think he'd come if we match A&M's offer.
