I'm not disappointed in the 4th down decision

I was just bothered by us not being able to control the game and have UK put away by the 4th quarter.
I know that SEC road games are tough, and night even more so, but still.
One thing about Saban that gets glossed over, IMO, is that he won a lot games by more than a TD. Outside of 2007, during his time at Bama, he was 30-14 in games decided by 7 points or less and coached 178 games decided by a more than 7... winning almost all of them.
I've seen Saban make some great decisions (putting in Tua vs UGA, the screen pass to Yeldon, etc.).
That said, during most games he coached, he had the game in hand early and never had to make a late, crucial decision.
Sure, things could've been done differently in that game... we should've been more aggressive about getting 1st down in that last drive. Forcing them to use TOs wasn't enough. It's not hard in CFB to run a 2 minute drill to get a FG with the clock stopping after 1st downs. Prevent defense was also not smart, especially when we have good DBs.
I just want to be a team that doesn't have to worry about a close game with UK. We should be a team that is up 14 in the 4th quarter against them, home or away.

I am
1 play to get 1 yard to end the game or stop them 4 times from getting 10 yards
while they are in desperate attack mode

Had no problem with it. If you miss, they get at least 3....maybe 7. Our D was playing much better in 2nd half. That said, Kiff will prolly go from this point forward.

The game was alot more than that 1 play so nobody can be disappointed really but I disagreed with the punt in that situation. Its not about punting and letting your defense do it, its about 1 yard and going for the win right there and dont let Kentucky get the ball back.
Look at it like this, we should have gone for the "win". We had a 4th down on a toss right that got 12 yards earlier in the game. Stein had 3 yards to get for the win and he took it and converted.
Kiffin doesnt go for win needing 1 yard but... Stein did on the 3 yard line and went for the win right there and got it. They won, we lost.
That was the hardest part of the game to swallow.

I guess I'm saying that I wouldn't feel much differently about the game even if we went for it. We should've won by double digits.

I still cannot and never will understand how punting was a good decision.
It’s over now but still bothers me.

I’m bothered because that situation is why u hire CLK and pay him a boat load of money so not going for it is not what LSU fans were

My biggest issue was that we were able to throw that pass to the side and the mesh all game and we seemed to get away from that. That last pass got what 8-9 yards and came up one foot short. We should have given the qb the ball for one yard and gotten the first

I am quite pissed about us punting and not going for it.

I wasn’t bothered by it either. Worst thing that can happen is you throw away 80% chance to win the game. There are more games left this season we might win so no big deal.

Not with the way our arse was handed to us in the trenches

What bothered me is Lane's lack of confidence in this team.

When you play not to lose, you often don’t win.

Kentucky had no time outs left but waltzed right down the field passing to wide open receivers. The defense was horrific in the final minute. Makes you wonder WTF is really going on in these games.

That 4th and 1 situation is exactly why we hired Lane. And with all the bullshite penalties that game, you’re gonna trust the refs to not potentially frick us over if Kentucky gets the ball back/and or gets it to OT?

You’re not considering the risk. If you don’t get one yard, the risk of a score against you increases drastically. It’s like playing Russian Roulette and saying you only need to land on one of the 5 empty chambers. Of course you do, but if you hit the sixth, it’s over.

This is what I’ve been saying.
There was just too much stacked against us with the crowd and the refs AND a good team.
Just end the fricking game and get the hell out of there.
I don’t want hear analytics when whatever the percentage is it can’t be better than getting one yard with Sam in an RPO or hell even with Deuce.
The the argument about trusting your defense, their bad kicker, the wind, all that is still in play if you don’t get it and shows even MORE confidence in the defense imo. It’s believing in both your offense and defense imo
It just sucks, basically.
But I’ve said this repeatedly, a lot of our fans were pumped when we hired Lane but said just don’t bring that lame 4th down mindset here, we don’t need that at a school like LSU. I think the uncertainty between who he was at Ole Miss and who he wants to be at LSU pushed him the wrong way in that moment.
I kind of agree to leave the OM stuff behind when you’re taking about pushing 4ths throughout the game, even though I think in some games even that could be useful here, but this wasnt the kind of play people meant.
A game sealing 4th and 1 on the road is the perfect time to do it and that aggressiveness should define your program, when the game is on the line.
Just like UK going for the win with the 2 pt in OT back to back weeks. Thats program building and defining positive aggression, and that’s why I was so happy when we brought in Kiffin.
His creativity in key situations and the willingness to strike at pivotal moments is what is going to take this program to a place we haven’t been since 2007. And that mentality combined with his brilliant football mind is what is going to take us far beyond that imo.
I can’t wait to see it all come together once he has full recruiting cycles and the initial firestorm he’s been under since making the move dies down. It’s going to be incredible.

We had them dead to rights & then Baker decided to flex his cute trick defense on the second most critical down and distance of the game.
At that point I think Kentucky was like 4/14 on 3rd down. What better time to trot out the stupidest joke alignment anyone has ever seen in a CFB game?

I agree with this, but we should not have gone into prevent defense after that.
