I agree with you, but I also believe that winning with less than a full roster of top players, is what fuels great recruiting. The reason that Alabama and now Ga, Ohio State are annually on the top of the ladder is because great HS players want to play for well coached teams and those teams are winners because they get the top players. So, it is a domino affect. Winning breeds winning because top recruits want to win, not participate, and having the top players with good coaching is what makes that happen. It is hard to break into that group unless a coaching staff proves it can win by playing dynamic offense/defense that proves it can win...big upsets because they showed they have moxy and will to break out of the ordinary mold. BK has not shown me he has an original thought on how to do this. I see ordinary, and I don't believe ordinary will lure top hs recruits and the cycle will just continue. But, hey BK gets his 100 million and then we will do it with someone else. We have had one out of the ordinary coach this decade imo, and it produced a national championship but because that coach was not around the following year(s), recruiting never developed like it could have, should have. LSU has to do something exciting and interesting to get back up the ladder. It takes out of the box coaching and top recruits.

Exactly. We lack the talent. But just not at the QB position.

Great qb's can mitigate lack of talent. our wr's are as good as any in the country. We can't run the ball because defenses aren't afraid of the long ball. Good qb = being able to run the ball. Running the ball = controlling the clock = takes the pressure off of the defense.

notice that chart says "signed" not "have on their roster"

how many blue chips from the 2019-2020 classes are here?

I agree with you however the coaches need to have that 20% in place that I talk about in the OP in order to continue to attract top talent to your program year over year. Saban is the example of that. He emphasizes the "process". In fact every time he wins a national championship he seems unhappy. Unhappy because he knows as he is hoisting that national championship trophy he is thinking about how to keep and build his current roster.

After 2019 Coach O was not thinking about the future. He veered away from his process, the Binder. People make fun of the Binder but the Binder was important to Coach O because it gave him direction. Being disloyal to the Binder is the same as being disloyal to the process.

I'm just glad Brian Kelly is emphasizing process. Process is what builds a talented roster and maintains a talented roster from season to season.

You're asking if we had the talent of the top 2 programs in college football if we would have a better record?

Does LSU even have 86 players on scholy?

It will take some time.

Cool, now do attrition for the last 4 classes.

how many draft picks are playing for LSU outside of the DL?

BJ, Ali, Kayshon, Jaray, Greg Brooks, Jaquelin Roy, Sevyn banks maybe, Jay Ward, Baskerville maybe, Bernard-Converse

That's 10 that could possibly get drafted this year.

We had that with defensive tackle... until Smith went out. That will end up being the worst thing all year to happen to this team.

We’re currently ranked #7 in recruiting. I believe we’re projected to finish 4th. Apparently recruits do want to play for ‘ordinary’ Brian Kelly. It looks like the oline and dline classes will be some of the best ever at LSU.
This class will fill a lot of the holes in our roster. The rest will be filled through the portal.

It’s year one of a momentous rebuild. We fielded a team with 39 scholarship players in the bowl game. That’s not Brian Kelly’s fault. He put enough bandaids through the portal to field a decent team.
In the meantime, here is Brian Kelly’s resume:
Championships
3 MIFC (1992, 1997–1998)
3 GLIAC (2001–2003)
1 MAC (2006)
2 Big East (2008–2009)
Awards
2× AFCA Division II Coach of the Year (2002–2003)
2× AP College Football Coach of the Year (2012, 2018)
Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year (2012)
3× Home Depot Coach of the Year Award (2009, 2012, 2018)
SN Coach of the Year (2012)
Walter Camp Coach of the Year (2012)
Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award (2018)
GLIAC Coach of the Year (2001)
3× Big East Coach of the Year (2007–2009)
ACC Coach of the Year (2020)

On paper, Brian Kelly is objectively the best coach LSU has ever hired. It is year 1! Other than Smart and Saban, please tell me what other SEC coach has a resume like that. I’ll save you the trouble….no one. Before last year, you could say that Kelly has a better resume than Smart.
How about giving the man a calendar year?

Top 10 teams have great O lines and experienced qb play. We have neither. Plus we have no running game at all. How can you be a top 10 team with deficiencies at all those positions? The best HC and coordinators in America could not coach this roster to 10 wins.

IMO, it will take until the 2024 season to have our roster where it should be to contend. In the meantime, implement your new culture and try to win as many games as possible.

Does our observation get to include benching 5 star players due to the opponents scheme, and grabbing people out of the portal to play above previous starters?

If so, then, any coach can mismanage a roster
