We should take him up on that offer.

what's fair?" I'd argue "fair" is what he could get on the open market.

Would another school pay O more? If not, we don't need to bump him.

LSU is not a charity. CEO will get a well deserved bump in pay, but I don't see him making over 6. It's still on a market-value basis. Coach O will be happy with any raise he gets, and he said himself he wants to leave room for higher-paid assistants.

That's the direction that LSU is moving toward--more of a systematic approach to hiring coaches, more like the NFL. I like it because if we lose one man, our entire program doesn't fall apart. You will see more and more programs doing this in the future.

We shouldn't.

The whole model is that we pay the head coach less and top dollar for coordinators.

Not necessarily but definitely a pay bump. Last I checked he isn't even top 25 in base pay which is criminal.

Brady is the one who needs the pay raise if the tigers win it all.

He should not, he was hired on the stipulation that he would take less for his coordinators and that should never change... no one else is going to come after him even after he wins a natty, he is LA born and raised and it is his dream job... i would understand a bump to 5 million but thats tops... He aint walking anywhere... LSU recruits itself in many ways and he has the best facilities in the land, fertile recruiting ground and warm weather... If i was the AD and he came back at me asking for more than 5 million because some other school offered 6, id say adios... cause i know he aint leaving... His coordinators are the key to his success... thats why Dabo is straight up robbing Clemson... wait till Venebles leaves or the Florida ST and Miami get better... I like the CEO head coach model, i think it works, but sometimes you gotta put people in their place.. Orgeron is no different.. He should be very happy here and count his blessings everyday...

This is the way it should be for any coach.. competitive base salary with performance based incentives.. That way you're not stuck with a Mack Brown or Bobby Bowden (or Les Miles) who was great at one point and is paid like it, but who no longer lives up to expectations.. It keeps the coach hungry. And stops the riduculous pay ballooning that is going on. As well as allowing for respectable pay to the support staff. You're not "HC poor."

The bonuses/incentives can be as ridiculous as you want them to be.. I don't suppose a university would have too many qualms with shelling out a 5m bonus for winning the national championship.

Orgeron will make about $5.6 million if he wins the natty. Next year we will pay our coordinators about $2 million more than market. This is because we have a head coach who can't compete without best in class coordinators. So if you add $2 million to $5.6 million you get a head coach cost of $7.6 million.

Maybe bump his base a million dollars to $5 million. Anything more would mean he's costing us more than Jimbo is costing A&M.
