Do we have a shot at making the playoffs? Just hypothetically speaking, not saying this will happen. Our 2 losses would be a 1 point loss in the first game of the year and a loss to the SEC East champ, who we beat in the rematch. Beat Ms State, Auburn, Florida, top 10 Ole Miss, top 10 Bama, likely top ranked Tenner at that point, etc. I think we'd have a decent chance to sneak in with that resume. What say tRant?

Again, because obviously some of you can't read, this is a HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO. Posting a hypothetical scenario will have no ramifications on how the team will play, so stop telling me pUmP tEh BrAkEs, CT. I obviously understand this is a rebuild. We are playing with house money, and we're starting to play our best football. So, for the sake of hypothetical scenarios, and making my Monday at work go by faster, either play along and give your input or ignore the thread.

Please please pump the breaks. We will be 8-4 and, if we really play well 9-3. That would be a fantastic spot from where we were last year. You are setting yourself up for disappointment.

A lot can happen in the next 5 weeks but the chances of us beating Bama are pretty slim. I would like to see them put 2 good weeks together by beating OM at home. I think if this team goes 3-2 over the next 5 and we finish 8-4 we beat expectations. Anything above that is lagniappe.

tRant: We suck. Play Nuss. Poor coaching, won't win another game.
also tRant: If we win out, will we go to the playoffs?

I think our resume will be in contention at point. However, many here on the rant are unable to think in hypotheticals and prefer to project loses and misery. So prepare to be skewered for suggesting on an LSU fan site that LSU might actually experience great success.

It all depends on other teams out there with 1 loss. The irony here is that a 1-loss Georgia or a 1-loss Tennessee, especially if that is a close game, might be more likely to get in. Here is the logic you will see, either Georgia barely lost to Tennessee. If it is Tennessee who we beat in the SEC championship they will say does anyone really think a 1 loss Georgia is not better than a 2 loss LSU team that was blown out by Tennessee? If we beat Georgia, the talking point will be how can you pick a 2-loss LSU who lost over the 1 loss Tennessee that blew them out in the regular season.

I won't bet the farm on this happening. As confident as I was that we would beat Florida, that's how unsure I am that Ole Miss can be defeated. They're really good this year.

Agree in this issue. I think we would need the winner of the Tenn-uga game to be convincing, so if we beat that winner, the loser would have a flimsy argument.

Also depends on the results in B1G. Does mich/Ohio st loser finish with only 1 loss?

Do the pac 12 and big 12 have 1-loss champs?

It's a discussion on a message board. It's not like fans having hypothetical discussions are going to impact the actual games in any way, shape, or form.

As to the OP, The SEC had earned the benefit of the doubt in the playoff selections. All one has to do is go back to 2017 for reference. Going into the SEC Championship game 10-2 Auburn was ranked #2 in the CFP polls....AHEAD of one-loss Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, and Miami, as well as undefeated Wisconsin. Had Auburn beaten UGA in the SECCG they would have been in the playoffs ahead of multiple 1 loss teams from other conferences. That includes 1 loss Alabama who didn't even reach the SECCG...because they lost to Auburn.

In this scenario, LSU would have avenged one of their only two losses, Tennessee, who would presumably be ranked #1 or #2 in that game. Fans from other parts of the nation would bitch about the "SEC-bias"...and they would be right. There IS a bias. But not because the pollsters just like the SEC because of cool uniforms. But because the SEC is FAR and away the toughest conference in the nation. You could make a strong argument that both the SEC East and West, individually, would be a stronger "conference" than almost every other conference in the US.

I'd also note that 7-5 isn't out of the question. Ole Miss, Arkansas and A&M can all be beat but they all can also beat us. Its not out of the realm of possibility that we lose to two of them. Hell its not even impossible that we lose to all 3 and go 6-6.

I think there is a much better chance that special teams and special teams alone will cost us another game.

That's a lot of what-if's to try to think about when we have a top-10 team to worry about this week. As we've needed to do all season, let's keep expectations to one week at a time. It's "Go to Hell Ole Miss" week. Keep the hate focused on our upcoming opponent before playing out dream scenarios.

With the Alabama Loss, I think we're more likely to see an SEC East Champion and a Playoff SEC East Runner Up and the West outside. Big 12 is finished, PAC-12 lost their hopes with USC's undefeated season ended by a whooping from Utah. The ACC is way to fragile as well.

So Summary:
Big 10 Champion & Big 10#2 (most likely a 1-loss team)
SEC Champion & SEC E#1/2 (1 loss team)

Alabama/Ole Miss the only title contenders from the west conference in my eyes, need to win out to make the playoffs. Tenn & Georgia are just that good this year.
