Previous years BK said the Defense would suck. People didn't want to believe him then were mad that it sucked.

House absolutely was the problem

Players didn’t like him and it showed on the field.

Hence why everytime BK talks about baker he talks about how the players get up to play for him

No more House, with Baker we ride! Blake Baker, Blake Baker, Blake Baker. He’s the new Sheriff in town, House No Mo!

I was excited about House when he was hired, but lets look at it for what it was. We had a defense with enough talent to be in the top 60 defensively. Yet we were not close to that last year, not close!
The previous year, we were better defensively but it still took several games for the best defensive player on the team to see the field regularly. It practically took an opposing coach saying that they couldn't stop 40 when he was in the game for the guy to start getting considerable playing time.
It's not entirely the coaches (DC) fault but there's a good bit blame to lay on those shoulders. Players could have executed some things better, but maybe the attention to detail was lacking. We'll see soon enough.

It doesn’t take too much studying to figure out that if Major Burns and Sage Ryan are
out there then the secondary will mostly be burnt toast all year. These two are 3 or 4 year players and they haven’t improved one bit. What makes you or anybody else think they have all of a sudden turned into good DBs? They are who they are at this point and that is below average.

I mean I want Blake to be a miracle worker as bad as anyone else but the truth is there is a lot of meh returning on this defense that Blake won’t be able to cure.

Last year, the only thing we heard all off-season was this defense was getting throat fricked every play. The DBs were probably the worst anyone has ever seen at practice for LSU.

This year all reports have been the defense seems improved. The defense started camp getting beat in 1v1s constantly, and occasionally held their own in 11v11 full pad practices. By the end of camp the defense was competitive in 1v1s and often outperforming the offense in 11v11 periods.

This year has a completely different narrative coming from eye witness practice reports. There's no comparison.

Another thing is to just listen to Brian Kelly's tone and expressions in media sessions. Last year he was cautious and extremely hesitant when answering questions about the defense. This year, each week of camp, he seems to be more and more excited, open, complimentary, and even pleasantly suprised when questioned about his defense.

The feeling of the program is different.

They can’t man up, so they better play a solid zone and get pressure.

Well you’re in the extreme minority. House was fricking terrible. Our DB coach had never coached in college before 2022. Robert Steeples was coaching fricking high school 4 years ago.

Last years D staff was the worst collection of coaching hires in LSU history. That has been corrected. I predict we finish in top 40 in total D this year.

If the defense looks light years better on Sunday than it did last year, what will the reaction Monday morning by you?

Will you simply hide in your cave and sulk or apologize to all and admit you were wrong?

the same fans blaming "scheme" without even knowing what our scheme was last year.
DC Pennywise, all of the Defensive Assistants and all of the players didn't know what the scheme was last season.

It was a massive defensive Chinese Fire Drill that was worse than what we saw in 20 and 21. (Didn't think that was possible)

I’m gonna assume it’ll be a tight game with the D giving up some chunk plays and Nuss throwing at least 1 INT.

I'm going out on a limb and saying BK knows if it was coaching or talent...given 30 years of this plus a history of having solid defenses year after year.

With that said, no way in hell he would've turned over the entire staff if the coaching was satisfactory.

Last year was very out if the norm for BK, and he handled it accordingly. Now...is Baker the answer? Who knows
