he probably would have stayed at LSU, or at Miami, if they had gotten Drew Brees.

Many Tiger fans will be salty, but I think everything worked out fairly well for LSU. 2 National Championships after Saban left. Perhaps LSU should have had more, yes. But there are many "upper echelon" schools who haven't won the big game in years. Here's to you Florida, Florida State, Miami-Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Oregon.

LSU is what it is today because of Nick Saban. I wish he'd stayed, but understand someone like that wants to ply their trade at the highest level. I wish he hadn't gone to Alabama.

ETA: he could have handled his departure from LSU better.

Hindsight is 20/20. He would have continued to flirt with the NFL even if he had stayed. He needed to leave and learn that it’s harder to control people when they’re already making a lot of money.

It just sucks that he came back to college football at Bama.

Both things are true…
Had he stayed we would have won more than 2 national championships
Honestly with our talent and his coaching I think we win 8-9 and I’m not kidding
But I also do think for a very long time the flirt with nfl would have continued.
He had to go to see

LSU wins at least two more titles if Nick never went to Bama.

2011 and 2012

Not to mention all the in state talent he stole from us between 2010-2018

I don’t disagree, but without Dinardo starting it, Saban probably fails here b/c we don’t give him enough time. Dinardo wasn’t any good at coaching, but he did plenty for us to get better facilities and found a way to keep in state talent and set the next coach up pretty well. Dinardo walked into a a shitty situation. Saban walked into a much much better situation.
Again not saying Saban isn’t great, b/c he obviously is, but I think Dinardo is under appreciated.

Nick won 19 national titles in 15 years at bama (this is hyperbole for the mouth breathers). He EASILY wins 9-10 in 25 years in BR had he stayed.

When we are ran by a professional, we get the EXACT SAME PLAYERS bama gets, and the results follow. Hell, our program is great enough that two ABSOLUTE DORKS won a title here in spite of themselves. Don't agree?? Who in the hell is trying to hire Less or the cookie monster now?? They both won titles at LSU .

BK is a poor man's Saban, and he'll win at least a couple here if he stays 10 years.

I think LSU could have won a couple more had he stayed. But I also feel like he had to go to the NFL and fail to become the collage coach he was.

More than anything else, I think that's what gets Tiger fans up in arms about L'il Nicky.

I don't fault him for taking an NFL job, and I don't fault him for taking the Bama job when he came back (although I was a bit salty about our previous coach drinking the GumpJuice). I, along with many other LSU fans, think that he was disingenuous about whether or not he was leaving - and why.

He definitely learned that and it’s a big reason why he retired when he did

Which is also why he decided to leave college coaching.

I enjoyed all the winning when Nick was here but it was exhausting at the end of every year as the rumors swirled that he was going to leave. he’d deny it but his agent was out there marketing him to the highest bidder.

I think this is very true, not only for him, but for all of us who have "failed." Failing is nothing more than learning, if one wants to see the positive in it.

He had to scratch that NFL itch, so he would have left eventually. I'm grateful for everything Nick Saban did for LSU. He show our administration that if LSU was going to win big, they had to be invested in the program.

My favorite Louisiana sports hypothetical is

"would you rather Saban choose Brees at Miami (hence Brees is never a Saint) if that means Saban has a 12 year career at Miami?"

Optimistically LSU would probably have won 2 or 3 Nattys from 05-2017, Bama has no dynasty whatsoever, but pessimistically the Saints probably go to San Antonio

Or maybe Bama makes an offer he can't refuse.and he jumps anyway.

Saban was already wearing thin here with his "don't speak to me in the hallway" personality. He's mellowed quite a bit, but at LSU he was still in full a-hole mode. I can see a desperate Bama offering him a boatload of money and total control and LSU refusing to match it. Maybe LSU goes out and gets Mike Gundy, the up and comer who replaced gone to Michigan Les Miles at Oklahoma State.
