Exactly. This is UT's 4th iteration of rebuilding.

I agree we should be competitive in year 2 though maybe not quite up to winning a Natty level (hopefully we could but not counting on it.)

Or how Saban, Kirby, Urban

Let's look at those.

Saban - When at LSU and he won a natty in year 4 he said that was a year ahead of schedule. Of course thing were a bit different back then, specifically portal availability. What he did after taking over for Shula was nothing short of phenomenal. But Saban is not the average coach and if you thought Kelly was Alabama Saban 2.0 then I don't know what to say.

Kirby - took over a team that had back to back 9-3 regular seasons (10-3 overall) and was a well run program even if underachieving. He promptly went 7-5 in the regular season (8-5 overall).

Urban - took over an Ohio state program that had one rough season with Luke Fickel as the interem head coach as a last minute replacement for Tressel when he abruptly resigned. Prior to that seasons they had 5 consecutive seasons of 10+ wins

Kelly - took over a team was that down to less than 40 scholarship players, a team who had not had a winning season in two years. Had won 10 or more games twice in the in the last 8 seasons, both of those with a generational QB at the helm. So I could understand why Season 3 might be the best indication of what a Kelly LSU team will look like.

Did any of them start with a roster of 39 players or a fully intact roster? I’ll hang up and listen…

And reading the board the past couple of days you can tell the ones who actually pay attention to what is going on and having to be done and realistic compared to the ones that turn on the tv on game day and don’t have a clue…

Because they did not take over a team, with Ed as the previous coach.

Please enlighten us all on how many players Kelly started with when LSU played the bowl game with 39 players and he was already named head coach…

Compete for what?

If you are asking will we be competing for a playoff spot, no.
8, or 9 wins possibly. We have a long way to go.

Tenn got extremely lucky in finding a backup QB being one of the best in the country. That doesn’t happen everyday. With that said they were 7-6 last year with multiple blowouts so according to our fans heupel should not have even lasted a full season.

One knucklehead even said “3-4 years. Buckle up”. Then explain to me why UT is competing in year two? Or how Saban, Kirby, Urban, etc. all were competing in year two? We have young talent now, are likely bringing in a top 5 recruiting class and can utilize the transfer portal. So why are people saying we can’t compete next season?

It depends on where you’re starting. Olinemen for example have to be in year 3 typically to be strong enough to compete for championships.

It took Orgeron 2 seasons to burn it down after one of great seasons and teams of all time. Track Les’s teams and see the down years after the great one. In this case it is like starting from zero.

Saban in 2000 went 8-4, in 2001 went 10-3, 2002 8-5, then he had the 13-1 season and national championship in 2003.You have to give more than a damn year to recruit and build a good team. Now I do believe he made a huge mistake not given Brennan the chance, but he needs more time than a year.

We are a National Championship caliber school, but you have people trying to reset expectations super low.

We do not have a National Championship level roster. We do not have an SEC West Championship level roster.

People that believe we do are either kidding themselves or don’t know anything about football.

And the biggest problem isn’t even QB. It’s our interior OL and followed by our CBs.

Tennessee has a transfer QB that changed their program around that's why. We don't have that!! If that same guy came to LSU we might not even be complaining right now.

May, or may not. Depends on Oline recruiting/development/transfers. Not every rebuild is the same. The oline has been a problem for almost a decade and completely devolved to nothing the last 2 years. Once that is solidified, then you don't need a QB that's top trait is the ability to run for his life. Next year looks promising on the line with the 2 frosh tackles, but an elite center is the most glaring need at the moment.
