This man is a teacher of the game. He's not a CEO type delegating everything to his assistants. He pays attention to the little things that win and lose baseball games. His teams are gonna be far more prepared for each opponent than what we've seen recently at LSU.

The big question is will he be able to recruit and develop top line pitching here and I think he will over time.

Kids will love playing for this guy.

Yep. That's exactly what we need. We usually don't have a problem getting talent. We've had a problem with the details. The fundamentals of the game. These kids should leave better players than they came in. There's no excuse for a kid to come to LSU with their potential squandered.

Pros:
- Elite recruiter
- Excellent hitting coach
- Great personality that fans and players will love
- Players coach
- Young and full of energy

Cons:
- Needs to nail the pitching coach hire
- Needs to familiarize himself with recruiting in the Southeast. This won't be nearly as hard as people think. Baseball is different than football, these kids play travel ball all over. He just needs to meet some HS/travel ball coaches. A good recruiting coach would completely alleviate any issue here.

I’m tired of seeing people harp on this. Arizona doesn’t even put top 30 $$$ into their program. That’s why he left. As another poster put it “he was driving a Taurus like a Camero”.......”and he just got the keys to the Ferrari!

That video someone else posted of him coaching at the Mexican Fiesta was great. When he talked, his players looked on intently. He was even keeled and seemed to be a great teacher and instructor.

I wouldn’t put those under “cons”. At least not yet. Maybe “incomplete” or “TBD”.

His whole batting order hitting over .300?

Hell, Howard Dobson and Beth Torina need to be learning from this guy.

While it would be great to continue to pick up top recruits in Florida and Texas and elsewhere in the Southeast, we can just as easily pick up some top recruits in California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Arizona and be just fine.

I think we might have found our replacement for Miriam Singer....Jay Johnson's wife Maureen:

quote:

A decade later, she's Nevada's top compliance officer — with the lofty title of "Associate Athletic Director, Compliance, Special Assistant to the President" — and the person who Wolf Pack football coach Brian Polian calls, "the single-biggest advocate on our campus for our student-athletes."

"She deserves a ton of credit," Polian said. "She works hard for our kids. I trust her implicitly because she was an athlete and she's been at big-time places. There are some people who live in the world of, 'No.' They just tell you, 'No.' I've been at those places. Maureen is a person who says, 'You can't do that, but tell me what you're trying to achieve. What's the end goal? We'll find a way to do it together.'"

quote:

Marshall drew a high-profile case at Nevada last season with Wolf Pack center A.J. West, whose eligibility was in question by the NCAA. Marshall joked that an entire year of her life was devoted to his case — "I'd wake up every day thinking about A.J. West," she said — but her persistence paid off.

Marshall was able to get West eligible midway through last year, basically saving the Wolf Pack's season, and this summer she got him an extra year of eligibility. It's that persistence that has made her one of the most-liked employees at Nevada.

What's one of the main issues we've seen the last few years with LSU baseball---a lack of being fundamentally sound! I think that is one thing most Ranters will agree on, we just haven't played with good fundamentals on a consistent basis. Hopefully that is all about to change!
