Lets see how the team responds this week. That will tell all about the coaches and the players.

Boom.

ELITE offense that could win a championship this year if we even had a semi-competent defense.

You don’t just go “aww shucks, oh well.”

It’s okay to be frustrated right now. If we didn’t have one of the worst defenses in our programs history, we’d possibly be the most dangerous team in cfb.

EXACTLY

That is the frustrating part because it is very likely the offense will take a step back next year due to personnel losses. When it does, we will have the same "oh well, be patient" post as the OP.

With this offense ALL the defense had to be is average. If that is the case, LSU is sitting at 4-1 with the CFP. Instead, it is one of the 4 WORST defenses among ALL major conf. opponents, and seemingly getting WORSE as the weeks go on.

It's akin to the same pathetic posts we had during basketball season when LSU was crapping all over themselves to a 2-16 SEC record (last place). "The program was in bad shape. Be patient!" No one thought the football program, just like the basketball program, was in great shape when the new coaching staff took over. Thus, no one expected them to be completely dominant right away. But that is a far cry from being absolutely inept...which is what is going on now (at least with LSU's defense).

In 2019 LSU had a dominant offense. The defense, for the majority of the season was, at best, average. That was enough. And once the defense caught up at the end LSU became dominant.

This is not the 2019 offense. However, it is on pace to be second only to that group. This defense though is not even coming close to average

So sick of these two words. Fix the d@mn product on the field. Obviously the process is trending in the wrong direction.

I agree. We’re still LSU. We can make fixes faster than most programs. Always sucks having high expectations and not meeting them though…

on offense

but I do think we should be better than this on defense.

coaches need to do what they can to figure this out.

LOL. BK literally has ONE full recruiting class. ONE. Go back and look at what you lost in the secondary from last year. ALL were veterans except for Brooks and that is what he would be this year with his experience. Last year it was the offense that had all the rookies and it showed. Some game we showed up, others we didn't. This year it is flipped. I'm not saying I'm not upset with what happened at OM but I'm not ready to burn everything down and fire everyone. These are the same coaches who turned thing around in the 2nd halves of many games last year. Especially on Defense. They didn't suddenly forget how to coach. For the 12 year olds on this site this is a rebuild from 39 scholarship players and a wide receiver playing QB in bowl game just 2 years ago. Last year was an anomaly. We got lucky in some games and won 10. Could have easily been 7-8 so everyone thought we are way ahead of schedule and this year should be no different. Well now we know that is unrealistic but then that is usually the case on this site. We are still rebuilding the defense and it will take a couple of more recruiting classes to get there. Even with the portal. Get a grip and get a life and get realistic with your expectations.

LSU's historically all time worse defense

Lazy coaching-never prepared and zero in game adjustments. No coaching of fundamentals

Disastrous personnel decisions- i.e. Harold Perkins

Lazy recruiting and relying on portal to compensate

Feeling the need to tell everybody he slept at his office last night

Linear decline since the Bama game last year

Woodward stepping in to force a move to get help on the D-line

Sounds more like a train wreck instead of building a program

Counterpoint: the fact that we have an elite offense already in year two is awesome and a sign of good things to come. The program was in shambles two years ago and it takes time to build it back up.

For this season, I totally agree @Mizzou is a pivotal game. I’m interested to see how we play and respond to the adversity.

I agree with you. Incredibly frustrated at the moment but I think Kelly will get it straightened out.

Yeah totally okay. Me too. But some fans act like they’ve never seen a program be built. And in some cases I actually think they’ve NEVER seen a program be built. It doesn’t happen overnight. There are gonna be speed-bumps and necessary corrections. BK’s national title staff and players will look different than it does today.

I know it was different times, but When Saban took over, there were some pretty big lows leading up to 2003. UAB, OleMiss, @VaTech, @Georgia, @Arky, Florida… it happens, and could be argued those moments are necessary to get better as a program. (I could list more, but those are the ones that stand out in my mind,)

Maybe it takes 3 years to learn House's scheme. Heard that one before.

If it takes 3 freaking years to learn, it certainly is an NFL Level Defense and should be NOT be run at LSU!

Players have to THINK too much, which slows them down.

This Defense certainly is Tepper like in that regard.......

Don’t worry once LSU starts playing teams with a defense that will change.

We are hoping Greg Brooks can live a normal life. I’d dial back your expectations for him playing football ever again, much less next year.
