Defense played great in the first half. Texas clearly won the halftime rah-rah speech. Then the D got noticeably tired in the second half. I'm sure it had more to do with the heat than conditioning. Screw it, we prevailed. It'll be mid-October before we have another big game.

I don't think I have ever seen this level of holding allowed in a game. Chaisson was held, dragged to the ground, wrestled, tackled as were our whole DL every Texas pass play of this game. You can't fault him for not putting up a lot of stats or not getting to the QB in a game like this with the way the OL was allowed to perform MMA on him

I think Texas will be in the playoffs next season and maybes the the season after that. That team is super young and will be scary. Amazing job by LSU pulling it off such a great game. Thanks to both teams

Everyone is freaking out about the lack of pressure, but I think they were just trying to keep containment on Ehlinger. The biggest concern was the lack of conditioning, missed tackles and weak tackling attempts.

All of the areas you mentioned were factors. I've mentioned the poor tackling, myself, and I don't think anyone would disagree with those points.
But Ehlinger is not Michael Vick or Kyler Murray. I wouldn't worry near so much about containing his running ability. He runs when there is an opening, and because there was no pressure, he was able to either complete wide open intermediate passes, or run for first downs. So if the game plan was to contain Ehlinger in the pocket, it failed miserably.
I thought that the style of defense LSU deployed actually indicated that they were overly concerned about Ehlinger beating them with his arm if they left the secondary vulnerable by blitzing. And I can understand that thought process coming INTO the game. But when it became clear that this strategy was failing, and that when Ehlinger WAS blitzed, our guys broke through and he was not able handle it, it should have been obvious that our best bet was to keep coming after him.
But the game plan never changed, and the result was zero stops in the second half... Zero. That's a problem.

As I was watching the game last night, I was thinking the same thing.
The real surprise, to me, was looking at Orgeron throughout the night. He was calm and collected, even as the game was going back and forth on offense.
To my great surprise, Ed Orgeron has grown into the job. Aleva was a feckless wimp, but he got his last two hires right.

I have to agree, Herman is a good coach. I'm confused where you specifically feel like Chaisson was shut down at??

He did well.
They did keep him on notice but overall he did a good job considering the schemes they had to knock him out of the plays.
This. Wasn't a great over all effort by the d but Texas has a damn good offense. We def need to clean it up but my goodness our fans are miserable fricks. We just saw an offense that we've been begging for. We have the talent and coaches on defense and will improve.

Texas has a very good oline. As good as anyone outside of UGA
