Ole Miss is a little better than they usually are but there still ole Miss. they aren’t going to win anything. For LSU to be ranked lower should project how week everyone expect our defense to be. On a positive note, I saw where someone from Vegas has us winning all of our games except A&M,played there. But I believe that may be wishful thinking in light of all we have lost from last year.We will know more once we see what the coaches can do with what they have.

Disappointed we are ranked 11, behind 6 other SEC Teams.
Too many unknowns right now. I think we could end up being much better than that but if I were not an LSU fan I would probably think 11 is too high, not too low. Only playing the games will tell us what this team is really made of.

“We’re” gong to the playoffs, print the shirts!

Let's start by mentioning the offensive line is LOADED and the QB and running backs and receivers will/should be well above average. I expect the Tigers to average over 30 points a game - probably closer to 40. The OFFENSE is legit.
The BIG question mark is the DEFENSE. We didn't lose a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball b/c honestly we didn't have any to lose. Maason Smith was our star player and he wasn't that great IMHO. Returning Perkins is going to be a plus and getting a defensive coordinator who can make in-game adjustments will help along w improving the defensive backfield and pass rush.
Also keep in mind that Brian Kelly is in his 3rd season at LSU. His mindset and will to win has kept LSU competitive in most every game so far. Now he is in year 3 and the players and depth are coming together. The guy knows how to build a winner and compete for championships.
The schedule is favorable. Alabama (our nemesis) has a new coach and Ole Miss is Ole Miss. We get our toughest 2 opponents (at least on paper) at home. IF..... we can stay relatively healthy most of the season there's a very good chance we could not only win the west but also the SEC championship. Playoffs chances are very good. Let it happen! GEAUX TIGERS!

quote:they all have returning QB’s from the previous year, some have started mutiple seasons, I don’t think you realize how important that is compared to a guy who’s only made 1 start in a bowl game.
But is Ole Miss, Missouri and Bama all better teams than LSU.

Im OK with 11.
Although talented, the offense has a new Coordinator, and they lost a Heisman QB. The defense also has a new coordinator, and they were historically bad last year.
11 is generous if you ask me. This team has ALOT to prove on both sides of the ball.

We ended last year ranked #13. We lost a Heisman QB, two first round receivers, our OC, and had to replace our entire defensive staff. Not sure why you are surprised.

Have you seen what Ole Piss got in the portal? With the additions of the new players and coaches if they dont win it this year, they never will.

I think #11 is too high honestly. We lost a Heisman winning QB and 2 first round receivers. Our defense should be better with an overhauled defensive staff but who really knows until the game is played. On the positive we have a top 5 O line in the country and a QB who has been in the program and showed he can ball in the bowl game. I think we would be more appropriately ranked at 15ish.
Agreed, and I think K. Jackson at 6 ft 225 is going to punish some people behind that OL (the strength of the team IMO). If they get him accelerating into the second level, look out. OFF is going to look different this season, no doubt, but they should move the ball consistently, eat some clock & put away opponents.

LSU should be 18-22 going into the season
Name 17-21 teams you'd have above us.

11 is way too high
It may wind up being. But I think you are doing what a lot of people do when they make statements like this. You are infinitely more familiar with LSU's roster than all the other teams. And you have an idea of what a typical #11 should look like. And you don't think LSU's roster fits what you have in your head for an 11th ranked team. But that's the thing, they are rankings. Rank 15 other teams that you think should be ahead of LSU to show that "11 is way too high."
Maybe you can do it. But I doubt it. I'm not saying we should be ranked 11. I'm not familiar with that many other teams rosters. I think there's likely a pretty clear top 5 or 6 based on returning talent, then probably another 10-15 that could each wind up in the playoffs if things break their way. I think LSU is likely right in the middle of that group.

I get the concern about DT and DB.
DT- You never know how how having an actual DL coach will impact some of these guys. Not saying we will have a roster full of all Americans, but can they be serviceable?
DB- I am more optimistic here than other people. You had a few 18 year olds playing here last year that struggled. Not every true freshman is Stingley. I am excited to see how much an off season under Raymond can help. I also am excited to see how Zy Alexander can continue to improve (assuming he gets to 100%). He was getting there before he got hurt against Army.
I am not worried about the offense. I think Lacy takes a big step forward. It is definitely going to look different. But I am not unhappy about running a little more ball control type offense behind this offensive line. Jackson/Williams/Durham/Emery should be able to run at will.

Rankings don’t mean shite until November. Just win game 1. That’s all I care about.

and Durham probably isn't going to play much.
He's likely gonna have to. I'm not counting on Holly being back this year, and honestly, I''m not sure how good he really is anyway. Emery won't be ready do much the 1st part of the season. We can't play with just Williams and Jackson. Durham's gonna have to able to hit the ground running. Literally. They may not give him the whole playbook and have to simplify the offense a bit when he's in there--especially early in the season--but he's likely gonna have to us 8-10 carries a game so we don't run Jackson and Williams in the dirt by mid October. And our OL is gonna be too good to not take advantage of running the ball.

Forget rankings for now. Focus on beating SoCal in Vegas.

People are putting a lot of stock in an Ole Miss program that’s done less than A&M did under Fisher.

We've had an incredibly shitty defense for 3 years straight now. I think we are appropriately ranked.
