I don’t see how this financial arms race keeps going indefinitely across CFB

The numbers being thrown at these slapdick college football coaches and immature kids playing the game is insane considering what the programs bring in.
The average NFL team had $581,000,000 in revenue last year, the average of all Big Ten and SEC schools was $35,000,000.
That being said, you’ve got guys like Brian Kelly making more than basically any NFL coach, coaching staffs making more than other programs bring in in gross revenue, players who haven’t even proven that they’re going to succeed in college being guaranteed 8 figures, the entire thing is a total fricking mess.
At some point schools have to collectively realize that they’re playing a game they can’t win, right? While NFL teams sign guys to cheap rookie contracts and pay them more as they earn it, colleges are throwing massive bags at guys, both players and coaches, who are a total shot in the dark and there’s just no way that’s a profitable strategy in the long term.
Something’s gotta give at some point and I’d say we’re basically there while we owe lame duck Ed Orgeron millions per year, lame duck BK $70,000,000, massive buyouts for assistants who suck, and we’re on the hook for a shite ton of kids who will probably be terrible. And the funny thing is that basically every other program is in the same boat because of these ridiculous contracts and NIL. CFB is screwed

Leaving a major point. NFL is a business.
CFB administrators don’t use their money. It’s boosters throwing money for shites

If you don’t think college football is a business then I’m not sure what to tell you

This isn't sustainable.
A semi-pro league with a salary cap will come eventually.

NFL players get endorsements too that aren't in this number which is basically NIL, boosters, etc. When CFB revenue sharing starts it doesn't mean the end of NIL.

Would love to see a salary cap ASAP

It’s a business, but they aren’t trying to turn a profit. At least that’s how it works at LSU.
They do not try to maximize profits. They try and maximize spending all the revenues,

A league will have to happen first.
Boosters have money because they are good Businessmen.
They will soon figure out that giving money to 18-year-olds annually is not a good investment. When the schools start struggling to get nil money, change will happen.

The goal of literally every business is to “not turn a profit” on paper. I can assure you that LSU Athletics has way more cash going into its account every year than going out while boosters cover real cash expenditures and cover the actual hits.

I think Spurrier said Freshman should not get NIL. Earn it first.

LOL They know giving money to 18 year olds that may or may not be a bust is not a good investment. They don't do it to get a return on their money. They do it because they are friggen loaded, have more money in disposable income than most of us will earn in our lifetimes, and want to see their alma mater win football titles.

It will only stop when boosters stop donating which probably won’t happen.

The amount of people who can do this in perpituity is low. There will only be a few schools with loaded rosters. They will perpetually be in the playoffs and win. This will go on for a while until a decision is made to form a league and create a salary cap. It's almost identical to what the NFL did. We are only at the beginning of this. We have some really disgusting years ahead of us.
Hopefully LSU can be a player in this but I admit that no money will come from me. There's a reason why I only watch college football and don't care for the NFL. The college football that we grew up with is dead.

If they pay 12 million for a player and dont see their program win any kind of championship, they will slow down.

Totally agree. Realistically, only a few teams have the cash to keep paying the current amount of NIL money consistently. LSU is gonna be behind the top tier teams and unless we get lucky and get a Jayden Daniels every now and then we are not even making the playoffs.
Not sure what the future holds for college football but I do know I spend a LOT less time watching it now than I did 10 years ago. Hopefully, LSU gets its act together and makes a push upward soon but I don't see it. Luckily, I like fishing, hunting, hiking and camping because thats where my time goes now with the extra weekend hours I have found.

And once that step is made, will players then be considered employees and can be terminated for poor job performance?

Pandora’s box has been opened.

You and me.....the fans demand it. We want the arms race. We love the bragging rights. We bitch about the inflated prices of the tickets and stadium costs inside...but still we sacrifice our money to go watch the game. Fork over $100> per ticket. We'll gladly fork over $ 60 for a shirt with a .25 logo. On game day, you'll blow even more money to park, eat and drink. Some will bring monstrous RVs in a dick measuring effort and pay even more for the 8 days of a quasi bacchanalian celebration every Fall.
You'll gladly put up with ticket increases for incessant stadium upgrades for " the GameDay Experience". You'll laugh, brag and complain about coaches and their ridiculous salaries thinking you aren't paying....the boosters are. We fret , analyze, brag, bitch moan about the state of recruiting.....some of you pay to get in depth updates and analysis. We bitch some more, kids and young adults buy video games with the names and likeness....enriching the video game companies, the NCAA and by extension the member institutions. Everyone is in on the gig, now the players are....of course they always were, but quietly. But now they can do it out front.
Then the TV contracts and the leagues. ESPN, Fox, CBS....even NBC along with their spinoff of the SEC Network, Big 10 network and the ACC network. They pay the leagues obscene sums so we the fan can have our choice of games on Saturdays....we even get Friday games on Fox along with Thursday and even Tuesday.
Everybody is getting what they want. Guys like Sankey have more money than they know what to do with. Ciaches like Saban, Smart, Kelly, etc get generational wealth. Athletic Programs get money from increased ticket prices and sharing the revenue from TV contacts. The fans at home get their choice and can watch their favorite team week in and week out for almost no skin inthe game.
Yet, we complain about the actual players who have real skin in the game getting a taste of the pie that keeps replenishing itself
.....I still don't get why boosters are willing to shell out the kind of money they do on players and coaches. They're the dumbasses in my mind.

NIL contracts shouldn't be allowed until after signing.
