well he did win a national title and he was at least instrumental in playing his role as CEO of it. It cost money to have nice things

The biggest surprise to me is that we pay him that much when no one else would even consider stealing him away for that much.

Don't make that suggestion on here. There are plenty that are certain other schools would have been lining up to throw a dump-truck full of money at O. Schools where he would have better resources and opportunity to win big than LSU. Even at $2 million or so less O would be smart enough to know LSU is the BEST opportunity he could ever imagine.

Coach O's pay was higher than $6 million after the 2019 championship run with incentives. This is his salary after the national championship run:

It's going to be much closer to his $6 million base this year after the 5-5 COVID year.

I wonder how Tom Herman feels right now knowing he turned down the LSU job that the shrimp boat captain eventually got and made millions more at LSU than he did at UT.

The fact that the last 3 coaches have won a national title at LSU fairly shortly after their hiring speaks to the talent level that LSU brings in and bodes well for us next time we have a coaching search

Where is he going to go? He is at an upper echelon program. It’s not like he is at UL or FAU. There isn’t a person on here who would not have paid the coach (any coach) $6MM to have the season we had in 2019. But, he now has to prove his worth and survive all the mess going on

No doubt. If you bring in 12 of the top 15 athletes in Louisiana every year (which is usually done by default) you start with a top 10 class. After that you can cherry pick form Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida and other spots around the nation to round out a great class year after year. It doesn't always work out like that but in general it does.

Whoever the LSU coach is, is going to make in that range. Just accept it. It's not your money anyway.

That's the going rate, and it's only rising.

I can't believe morons are downvoting this.

Everyone knows no major football school would come for O. Therefore there's no need to give him huge raises or extensions when he's zero threat to leave. We already got tied down with the massive buyout for Miles - we don't need to do that for O. (Yes, I realize the buyout was paid by private money, but at some point those private donors will stop paying for our AD's stupidity).

And yes, the NC was spectacular and O gets credit for that. But I'm afraid that was less about O's masterful coaching and more about being a perfect storm of Burrow and Brady, both of whom are gone.

What price tag do you suggest we place on the coach who coordinated the greatest season in school and possibly college football history? Since you're an expert and all.....

I can't believe you think " we is" is an acceptable way of communicating the English language.
