Kelly turned out to be a lame duck who’s only worry was collecting a check and playing golf

AND drinking wine at the practice facility
AND turning down calls from commits because no app was made
AND leaving his house late for facility on gameday
AND leaving practices early to go eat and drink in restaurants
AND way too much delegating and not enough hands on coaching
etc

agreed, that doesn't really matter.

You think curmudgeon midwesterner Nick Saban was a cultural fit in Tuscaloosa? Midwesterner Urban Meyer a cultural fit in Gainesville, FL?

None of that matters. A good coach can be successful anywhere, regardless of the cultural fit.

Nothing matters when you’re winning. Everything matters when you’re losing.

I think he did his first two years and didn't get enough credit for making it to Atlanta his first year. But he checked out after, IMO confirming the rumors that he had told people at ND that he only planned on coaching for another few years. Woody made him an offer that he couldn't refuse. His heart was not into a long stint at LSU. He was about ready to hang it up when he got here.

I don't think the "fit" is as a big of a deal. The dude just didn't work as hard as he needed to. He got comfortable at ND with his soft schedule. He didn't grind like is needed to be top notch. When Denbrock left it was very clear who the dude was.

Woodward deserves the blame for a lot of shite. But blaming him for Brian Kelly’s laziness is hilarious. If that were true, a true competitor would have still gone out and made the most of whatever situation he had.

Kelly absolutely bears full responsibility for his response to Woodward’s micro-managing, but the poster’s point is fair that the Brian Kelly that ultimately ran the program into the ground was not the Brian Kelly LSU hired.

He might not be part of your LSU experience but I can assure you he is definitely part of LSU culture. Explain an entire stadium going bananas over his song if he’s not.

I did think the whole "family" thing was overblown. Our culture is ultimately about supporting winning programs. If you win, LSU fans will come, no matter where you're from.

The problem wasn’t the cultural fit. The problem was that he wasn’t doing his job.

Kelly was never really allowed full control of his program with Woodwards PR meddling. So he put it on auto-pilot. He had legit offense when he had terrible defense, and the opposite of that the next year. He was a mediocre defense away from Winning a natty with Daniels. The defensive problems got Woodward involved.

It was definitely overblown, in my opinion. Saban was not southern and also an a-hole…..but he won.

But Kiff is blowing it out of the water in understanding embracing and being part of LSU football culture.
Just keep that fricking basketball goal off the sidelines inTiger Stadium. No fricking solid white pants either.
