again, its not an obsession,,,,but there's an attainable candidate out there who wins at every stop he's coached at, who's won here before, and automatically steps in with love from the fans.

for LSU hoops hires that have been at best a mixed bag, he's a pretty safe bet at a time when we REALLY need it

It's nice to say "we could do better" but I've yet to see anyone mentioned that's a) actually attainable b) has a better resume than wade.

But do you recall the excitement around LSU basketball while he was here?? The drastic change from the years BEFORE him.
And now look at it.

Thats kinda all ya need to know.

It really is this simple. I am continually shocked by how controversial a take this is and the ratio of upvotes/downvotes for expressing it.

In 20 years, LSU has made the tournament 6 times. Wade accounts for 3 of those alone in consecutive years, and he would have been 4 in a row if not for Covid.

appearantly this shite won't die.

Notice how when football info comes out from certain people in the media/sources people poke holes, in credibility etc. but with this, "it's different" and every bit of Will Wade news is great credible info and not "just for clicks"? The hypocrisy.

still don't get the Wade obsession

The last 30 years of LSU basketball not including Wade's 5 seasons

Dale Brown (95-97): Overall winning %: .372; SEC winning %: .218. 0 NCAA Tournament appearances
John Brady: Overall winning %: .580; SEC winning %: .443. 4 NCAA Tournament appearances
Trent Johnson: Overall winning %: .519; SEC winning %: .391. 1 NCAA Tournament appearance
Johnny Jones: Overall winning %: .556; SEC winning %: .467. 1 NCAA Tournament appearance
Matt McMahon: Overall winning %: .461; SEC winning %: .236. 0 NCAA Tournament appearances

Will Wade: Overall winning %: .673; SEC winning %: .625. 3 NCAA Tournament appearances

Wade had a nearly 100 point higher winning % of any of the other HCs during that period. His SEC winning % was nearly 150 points higher. But for the 2020 NCAA Tournament being canceled, he would have reached the same amount of tournaments as Brady did in 11 years and almost as many, as the other guys did, combined in 25 years!

In short, LSU fans liked him because he won at a significantly higher and more consistent rate than any LSU coach in the two decades that preceded him and the 4 years after he was fired, which has been one of the worst 4 year periods in program history. It not a Scooby Doo mystery here.

Absolute cinema

I feel like the next logical progression in this saga is for S to be invited on to an NC State podcast to share what he knows

I also don't know why he'd come back.

Raleigh is an awesome place to live. NC State is more committed to men's basketball than LSU. He's being paid well.

Maybe he thinks LSU is a sleeping giant? Maybe he thinks the leash will be too tight at NC State and they'll fire him even if he makes the tourney most years, but doesn't advance, and LSU won't? Maybe he wants to finish what he started here?

I'm not sure.

I think it's this, plus a couple of big donors promising to keep his rosters well funded. Pure speculation, but I bet the universe hasn't felt right to WW since Woody fired him.

Always going to be at the backseat compared to Duke and UNC. LSU has the higher ceiling.

100% agree with you and the post you responded to. As far as the downvotes, I think a lot of people are tired of stuff like this:

just a lot of obnoxious and repetitive googoo gaga with no substance, insight, or thought.

It’s not just about now. It’s about the future. The ACC may not exist 5 years from now. But the SEC will and will have a lions share of the revenue which will be the lifeblood of any major program. I can assure you that’s also what they are selling him on.

That's not true. When the ACC gets split up, NC State could be one of the ones without a dance partner. If the ACC doesn't get split up, then the conference is stuck with a horrible financial situation and the divide between the ACC and SEC/Big10 is only getting bigger.

ETA: Let's compare stats:

NC State - 13 NCAA appearances since 2000 with 4 Sweet 16 appearances and 1 Final Four. One conference tournament title since 2000 and no regular season titles.

LSU - 9 NCAA appearances since 2000 with 3 Sweet 16 appearances and 1 Final Four. Four regular season conference titles and no conference tournament titles since 2000.

Totally agree about SEC/ACC. I just don’t think LSU has a total buy in on basketball like they have with football, baseball and even women’s basketball. Maybe I’m wrong

Agree with Tate and Woodward calling the shots, but those two aren't around anymore. Think Rousse will push for a much bigger investment in basketball.

Also have to consider the new structure of the athletic department. The AD will oversee and focus on football the associate ADs jobs will be to oversee the other two majors so it’s not like Verge will have to focus on hoops. That will be somebody else’s job now.

I hear ya, but at least men's bb has break-even potential. I believe they were just slightly in the black last year, when we still pretty much sucked.

Our women's bb program is elite, but still loses money.

Seems like investing in men's bb would be worth the risk.
