LSU fans recently turned on a coach who was winning 9 or more. The standard should be 10 yearly with a great bowl bid and challenging for the SEC title.

I agree 10 wins should be the expectation. But we are still rebuilding the roster, staff, and culture. It’s a process. And he won 9 regular season games during the rebuild years. Look at what Florida A&M and Auburn are dealing with during their rebuilds. They’d happily take 9 wins. I think by year 3 or 4 we will be in a playoff so stay patient and enjoy the come up. Cheers.

Then why was he losing 4-5 games a year?

He had 3 of those in 11 full seasons. He had a single season with more than 3 losses in his last 6. At least get your facts straight.

agree here. Unfortunately, no program is loaded with these.

What school did Walker Howard transfer to?

Derp.

Neither of these is an indication of anything and they are very different from each other. One is a starter who left because the coaching staff was fired and one was the third-string QB who left because he was impatient and, IMO, foolish.

I give him a B. LSU is an NC work in progress. The defense went out with a bang. I have to congratulate the defense, they just hung in there and played their hearts out. I was glad to see it paid off in the fourth quarter when they stopped the Aggies and took back the lead. Impressive.

Unfortunately, I believe the Heisman is tied to the overall team record. I hope I'm wrong. IMO without a doubt Jayden Daniels deserves that Heisman. He is an incredible athlete and a super nice guy.

Still, it was an enjoyable season watching Jayden constantly pulling LSU out of a bind with his passes and running. Hopefully, we'll get one more chance to see him do his magic in a bowl game. Plus I'd love to see Malik Nabers capture that record. Those young men worked so hard.

I'm going to miss him. I wish him Godspeed in all his endeavors.

....and just like that the regular season is over.

What looked solid this year? He was an LB coach at KC and our LB play was about the worst I've seen at LSU.

B.

Nobody expected us to be in the SEC championship game last year. Nobody expected us to have another Heisman trophy winning QB so soon.

BUT until he fixes the D he gets no higher than a B

He did patch things together last year and everyone was excited especially after beating Alabama. What is concerning is the disconnect BK had preseason with his defense. He led us to believe that the defense with the return of Mason Smith and the emergence of Perkins in his new role along with the transfer portal dbs would be elite. Then again after Auburn he seemed to find a way to be critical of his offense, that he was tired about hearing negative about his defense. He seems to be a coach who relies heavily on his coordinators and I recall when he took this job that Norte Dame folks saying that he would have difficulty when his coordinators didn’t follow him. Maybe just a defensive coordinator. He has done well but most standards but will need to make an outstanding hire in a defensive coordinator who can recruit or bring other coaches who can recruit to level the playing field with Georgia.

He took a program that went 5-5 and 6-7 with 39 scholarship players when he started to records of 10-4 and 9-3. The context there is important. Plus it feels nice to finally have an adult in charge of the program.

Also keep in mind the team he left had records of 10-2 (CFP) and 11-1 and their new coach led them to records of 8-4 and 9-3.

The defensive staff hirings were really really bad and for $10m per and for a “serious” and veteran coach should’ve been clearly a mistake from the start. I’d like him to explain what he thought the plan was at DB with Steeples and Cooks. Inexplicable.

A for year one.
C+ for year two. (A+ offense with an F defense)

Watching Auburn's defense plan against Alabama showed what could have been had the defense had been better coached and game planned.

The issues with defensive are inexcusable.

I grade it a Notre Dame. Lost to most of the good teams, beat the bad.

Not sure where you are getting this. He didn’t know House. He went after Brad Davis at UK before House and doesn’t have any connections with him, either. The insiders all said that Davis recommended House, which is reasonable since Davis worked for him at UK. It’s just too bad that the student is better than the master coaching in college.

Kelly also didn’t have a relationship with Freeman before he hired him at ND. I don’t think he had relationships with Elko or Lea before hiring them, either.

Denbrock is the exception, not the rule. Kelly has tended to stick more with guys he knows on offense. I’ll give you that.
