What a mess. Remember just a few years ago when the issue was merely some extra money so athletes could feel like they were part of the student body. This ruling is a game changer which compounds an already untenable situation.

Like most things …Lawyer up and paper them to death…hate to say it but you can run that out 15years in court and let them die on the vine regardless of the govt. You have to find people to fund it or it dies…basic business.

My son is a 3 star getting paid ~$1k/mo and he doesn’t have a problem with DJ driving a lambo. Not one bit. Some kids are worth more to a football program.

Feelings always win over economic sense, part of why we have a 37 trillion dollar deficit.

Some greedy QB will try to take most of the $20 million if there are no caps on what individual players/positions can make.

It's actually quite simple. Minus an anti-trust exemption from congress.

1. Most schools will drop athletics all together
2. Those that don't will just drop football
3. The only football programs left will be the SEC and the Big Ten, hence why they have been having meetings over the last year, knowing that this was coming.

These reasons are why the NCAA will get some kind of anti-trust exemption from congress eventually.

As with just about every decision and every step college sports has done in my lifetime, the unanswered questions and consequences (foreseen and unforeseen) are numerous. The administration of college sports has failed forever. There will be more lawsuits for sure. Nothing in this court approved settlement binds any athlete to the decision. Without contractual binding agreements it will remain the wild west.

Title IX mandates an equal number of athletic opportunities for women and men across all sports or at least roughly equal to the gender breakdown of the studen tbody. There are 105 football players hich have to be equalled by women sports. There won't be any women sports cut. Title IX previously caused the elimination of wrestling and men's gymnastics while rosters for women's sports were expanded. There are more softball scholarshiops than basebal and the same for women's basketball over men's basketball spots. T

the 20.5 million $ comes from a pool of 2.7 billion $ that the players won in lawsuit, so the money is not coming from school coffers, it's money provided from lawsuit settlement from NCAA coffers for the next 10 yrs at least after that not sure what happens

That’s incorrect.

The $2.7 billion is coming from NCAA and conference coffers (which will reduce conference distributions in the short term) as back-pay for the former athletes who were part of the class in the lawsuit.

The $20.5 million is a cap on direct spending by universities moving forward. That cap will increase as a percentage of average power conferences athletic revenue.

It’s worth noting that the $20.5 million is a cap, not a requirement. Schools don’t have to fund the full $20.5 million.

This is not true. The $2.7B is for past "damages". It will be paid out to former college athletes.

The $20.5M is completely separate and will be the responsibility of the universities.

What coffers? The NCAA doesn't have any spare cash lying around. Every dollar they take in already goes out. They are a non profit. They have enough money to cover expenses, that's it.

The schools and the conferences are on the hook for all of this.

That's because many on here have poor reading comprehension due to their "Uneducated & Ignorant" status and would have difficulty reading all that.

That being said, that post WAS way too long for the Rant. All those words would fry the average Ranter's brain and the good points in the post were totally lost because of the length........

It may become a big problem for Woodward. But it'll be a huge problem for many other programs before it becomes a problem for LSU. How those programs react may have an impact on LSU indirectly before the problem affects us directly.

Your premise is entirely wrong. LSU took in approximately 220 million dollars in revenues per the last fiscal year reports. The 20.5 million will come out of these revenues. The plan is revenue sharing and not profit sharing after all LSu only made about a million dollars more than they received per your link.

LSU athletics does not get any funds from the university or from the state. No funds will be taken from students on campus. I don’t know why you believe that to be the case.

LSU plans on increasing their revenue stream to meet these obligations. Have you been listening to Sankey? The SEC is negotiating right now for more tv money. Donors are being solicited, more and more. LSU athletics has tightened their budget. They know the 20.8 million is an added expense and they are planning for that.

I doubt this is settled any time soon.

The fact that equal opportunity was translated into everything equal is a problem.
