There are at least five reasons why knowing last year's playbook is not dispositive of success this year.

First, knowing every play an offense runs doesn't mean you can stop that offense. See Oklahoma wishbone.

Second, it's not the plays; it's the tendencies. Tendencies can be self-scouted and altered.

Third, Kiffin's offense has never been stagnant. It has always evolved.

Fourth, there are ALWAYS new plays to add and tweaks to be made. Last year's playbook is never the same as this year's playbook.

Fifth, a little knowledge is dangerous. The defensive read that worked for the defense before may be the read that wrecks the defense now.

Nah, I said 'generic Kiffin' for the first half; meaning I think we're still going to play well.
1st half will be competitive.

I just think Kiffin has heard enough trash talking that he's going to go into overdrive, to prove a point

No team will plan like this.

The playbooks don’t matter because they add and subtract stuff from it throughout the season. They change verbiage, signs etc every single game because teams start to figure it out if not. At this point, your starting QB could be playing your rival next season, so it’s obviously something that isn’t completely unique with people being very familiar with their competitions playbook. You also have analyst for decades that are at a new place every year and sitting there in all meetings and game planning. Those guys could easily have the same knowledge of the coaches system as anyone.

And Lane knows exactly what Pete is doing when he sees his defense go out.

And he's in his QB's ear the entire time telling him exactly what his reads are presnap.

I don't think people are really in tune with just how much of a benefit it is to have the helmet comms with kiffin directing things presnap. It's a massive advantage

I think he would just change his signals to the players on the field.

Obviously teams have tape, so the goal is to always give teams different looks presnap than you did the weak before.

Within the Coaching profession, depends on when a Coach loses his job. Now, you can be hired as an Analyst, allowing you to get on with another college.

Years ago, when a college coaches get fired from a job, they attend the coaches convention. I tell folks all the time, football coaches are a tight fraternity. One month you are trying to sign the same player for your respective schools. The next season, you maybe coaching on the same team. Never burn bridges.

Some schools will stop pay, some will continue to pay. So many now have agents representing.

Back in the early 90’s a friend got fired as an assistant. The A/D asked him to continue recruiting for the school, until the new coach would interview, a chance at getting hired. Some new HC’s clean house. That AD continued to pay my friend even after he got a job, for a full year.

It’s fun to sit down with coaches and hear stories, a former DC at LSU, his brother knew stories and where the bodies were buried.

A few I know, might lose a college job, let out a the word, get on with a high school job. In Texas once vested, you have a good retirement. An easy way to fall back.

Love your confidence and hope you're right. But that will be one of the most toxic environments in college football history. Anything can happen in that setting. Plus they are a talented football team. After this season though, they drop back down to reality.
