I remember going to SEC games in Tuscaloosa and Starkville in the 90s and there was little tail gating at all. There was more in Baton Rouge. People parked, went to the game, went home.

Huge changes everywhere.

I was at school at that time too. It was bad. It was bad. For those on here who don't know how bad it was, here is one example. In 1991 we played Vandy at home. I was in the student section. We were up by 2 with about 1:00 left and Vandy had the ball inside our 10. All they needed was a FG to win. They were letting the clock run and just running up the middle. On 3rd down they ran it again and was met at the line of scrimmage at the 1 by an LSU defender, they fumbled and we returned it past midfield. I thought the student section was going to storm the field. That's how bad it was.

I was there with you.

Stovall was making more money as a mid-level administrator at a local bank after he left, than he was as LSU's head football coach.

I was a student in the stands when Hallman lost at home to his former USM team.

I remember seeing him walking the halls at Broadmoor High as a substitute teacher after he was fired. Things have DEFINITLY changed.

I remember Phil Bennett after the game just dumbstruck......"what the frick?????" He would not talk to Amedee for weeks after that. Hallman knew it was over that night.

Legend has it ole Phil took a swing at Lynn Amedee on the plane ride home.

Curley Hallman got a 5year 85K contract in 1990.

That would be worth $210K today.

the stadium was still empty

It was hard core fans that attended back in those days. Ironically the ones who did show up for the games stayed to the bitter end for the most part (Florida 1993 notwithstanding).

I remember staying in 1994 for the Southern Miss game to the final horn, just a couple days before Camp Curley got the boot. It was sort of an "earthquake game in reverse", the thunderous chorus of boos from the small crowd in attendance that night was deafening when Andre Lafleur came up short on a 50 yard FG attempt on the game's last play, in an attempt to win it.

This is revisionist nonsense.

Place was like a morgue during most of the Hallman era.

People I used to tailgate with as a kid lived in Woodgate off highland rd. Hallman’s house was on the main road of the neighborhood and we had to pass it to go back to their house after the games. There would be toilet paper and multiple for sale signs in his yard after every game.

Saban was hired IN SPITE of Joe Dean. He had absolutely nothing to do with him coming here.

I was at the Auburn game in 1994 on the sidelines just away from the team. I always felt for Hallman that game. Because the passes were not his call. Lynn Amedee was calling those plays. After the first pick 6 Hallman told Amedee " Don't fricking throw, we got this game" Amedee ignored him.

I remember Phil Bennett after the game just dumbstruck......"what the frick?????" He would not talk to Amedee for weeks after that. Hallman knew it was over that night.

I too was at that game. When Jamie Howard threw the last pick 6 that gave Auburn the lead, that was the loudest I had ever heard a stadium that was not Tiger Stadium. Keep in mind, we were up 23-9 in the 4th. Howard then proceeded to throw 5 interceptions, with 3 being returned for a TD. Unfrickingbelievable.

Joe Dean had very little to do with the Saban hiring. He was actually against paying that contract, but was on his way out and really had no input over Emmert.

I stayed til the bitter end of this one too. 58-3. I can still feel the pain today.

That ain't legend. That's fact. Some defensive linemen had to get between them.

Sorry I missed all the second half excitement of that game. Left at the half (as it turned LSU's better half)! with the Tigers on the wrong end of a 23-3 score. Didn't think it could get worse than what I just witnessed.

Now I DID stay to the horn of the Arkansas game that year, which ended with a 100-yard pick 6 by Chad Loup. That was BRUTAL.

That was just your friendly SAAC doing their job. I was on there as an RHA rep when we did that. Crazy times.
