Ok, but that won't make me be impressed by Sage Ryan yesterday. He had a couple of nice breakups, but otherwise I was unimpressed with him. He's not alone because nearly the whole defense looked soft and uninspired for most of the game.

He is one of the biggest talent evaluation misses in the last decade by the recruiting services.

Tbf he is a safety playing corner. I hated the shite out of our defense, but I think it’s lame to crap on players willing to do unselfish things like play out of position when asked.

This by no means excuses the abominable job being done by Matt House in every conceivable area of coaching, but the secondary got hit hard before the season even started and then Zy went down to boot.

Sage moving to corner & making the most of it is a grown man move. I wouldn’t go as far as OP, but come on man…

Sage Ryan, Masson Smith, Taviano, etc, yeah these guys haven’t lived up to the 5* pedestal, but let’s give them a chance to actually be coached before we completely shite on them.
I hate dumbass takes like this. Ryan has been disappointing, but he's a safety playing corner. At best he should be at nickel surrounded by talent so he can just make plays.

Toviano is A FRESHMAN SAFETY PLAYING CORNER! I mean there is nothing else to be said.

Smith is back from a horrible injury, and needed a year to get his step back. If he stays another year I'd bet my house that he has an All SEC season.

Well said. It's more to do with coaching and guys playing outside their comfort zone. Example Perkins. No need to crap on players

When Wisconsin is picking on you with their "big play" offense they saw something on film you obviously didn't.

Wisky surpasses their season total for big plays in one game against us.

In fairness to Sage, our guys aren't getting coached up. Technique is very bad and physical development is behind.

I hate to say it but the guy can't cover or tackle... I still scratch my head at why they talked him into getting out of the portal other than the depth of the position.

According to BK numerous times over the year, Sage Ryan was playing because of his tackling and he would miss at least 2-3 routine tackles every week

Yeah, he is a good player, but the average message board fan doesn't even watch him; they just vomit the popular narrative in order to fit in.

There are dozens of guys like Damone Clark, who went on to great NFL careers but were dogged on here by the same morons dogging Sage Ryan. I'll tell you another guy they think sucks but is a stud - Greg Penn. When he's in the NFL they will say, "Oh well, he improved." But Greg Penn was a stud in 2023 and he was a stud in 2022. They just don't know what they're looking at.

He was out of position and turned around on every ball thrown at him, except 1 I think and that was a go route where you just run.

This is what I mean. Sage actually broke up an out but this guy thinks he was out of position on the play.

Wisconsin's quarterback honestly made some fantastic throws. There were plenty of times our backs were in position but they either didn't get turned around in time to make a play, or the ball was placed in the perfect spot.

He was the only player to break up any passes and he broke up 2 of them

Sage is a part of the reason we are not stable on defense. Maybe it is due to his youth or that he is out of position. What bothers me the most is that he seems slow even against the Wisconsin receivers. He doesn’t track the ball well or trust his eyes and he doesn’t tackle well. BK needs to get a couple of good dbs from the portal. Maybe a fast, sure tackling lb and a fast defensive end that can put pressure on an offense. With these additions, sage could concentrate at safety and maybe turn the corner? They are there

He made a couple nice plays and a couple bad ones.

I don’t think has as bad as this board makes him out to be, but he’s also not a guy who should a starting SEC corner.

He’s average. I also thing the overall horrible DL and LB play makes the DBs job harder and their mistakes more visible.

He's a league average to slightly below league average corner. Realistically he should be a CB3 on a good defense.

Damone Clark was legitimately bad for a good bit of his time at LSU. He turned it on and became a great LB, but it's comical to say people were dogging him for no reason.

I really hope we move him to be a true safety... Not that our corners are studs, but I don't think there is much of a drop off at all at corner from Sage to Toviano, Alexander, and presumably JK Johnson. Meanwhile Major Burns needs to get off the field. Would love to see Yaites and Sage as the starting safeties next year.

I feel he would've been better with a better surrounding cast. It seemed to me that the good players often got stretched thin and out of position often. Maybe this was due to lack of talent. I suppose we're just guessing from our perspective.
