Right around a year ago, when this board was pumping the Tigers hard and claiming Nuss for Heisman, I made a post about having realistic expectations. That Nuss wasnt as good as the board thought, that our Oline was still going to be weak, and that Perkins still didnt have a real position besides see ball, get ball. I thought that 9-3 was our actual ceiling and that our defense would have to carry us to most of our wins due to returning most of the player base, having the most experience, and not needing to gel like the offense needed too. That post went over like a fart in church.

But, Im here to do the same thing. The national media pundits have this fan base believing its Championship or bust in year 1. And they've done that by design. They realize that Lane isnt a favorite outside of LSU, and so if they create this unreachable goal in year 1, it can drive the conversation towards LSU screwed themselves again with another coaching hire that isnt as good as they thought.

So lets look at this team from that same perspective.

Our QB may very well be our saving grace. Ive heard hes putting in the work to excel and that hes doing all of the things Nuss didnt. Hes spending a ton of time in the VR, and also throwing with WRs and TEs outside of practice. That being sad, he's new to LSU, new to Lanes offense, didnt get to practice as much during Spring, and had never played a down with ANY of these WRs. Its going to take time to gel.

Our Oline, looks to be improved on paper but once again, 0 time playing along side one another. You have to understand what the guy on the left or right of you is thinking on every play on these college O lines. Blocking schemes aren't simply "you have this guy, block him" since they stunt and have exotic blitz packages. You have to understand when to pass off on blocks, or when that pass off is coming so someone can pick up the stunting DL or blitzing LB/safety.

WRs. Man, if what Im hearing is correct, these guys are all studs but we heard that about last years guys. Once again, we need time to figure out whos who and what each person excels at on game day.

RBs. We have legit 3 starters for most teams right now. This is our biggest strength and if these guys can have patience and vision I think we see our first 1k rusher RB in a few years.

Defense side should be close to the same as last year if not better. Ive pounded my chest for 3 years that Perkins was actually a weak link, so if we stay healthy I think this defense is better. We are going to be relying on them through the first 4 games
I believe.

But staying healthy is going to be the key, especially in 2 positions. DL and DB. We are INCREDIBLY lacking depth at these 2 positions. One injury at the DB position and our season could fall apart.

Do I think we make the playoffs? Maybe. This is a hell of a schedule with basically a new team on the offensive side. Dabo is going to pull out all of his tricks he can to try and get an upset, because his career is on the line right now. Dabo gets blown out at LSU, I dont think he makes the end of the week. And we all know Ole Miss is going to be a wild ride.

It'll be a LSU season for the history books one way or the other. I still think the good guys prevail in the end with at least a seat in the playoffs but give it some time.

Disagree, when you spend this level of money you need to make the playoff.

With that said, the fire Kiffin threads that will happen after our first loss are insane and ridiculous.

We are stuck with Kiffin for better or for worse. This is a massive investment, so he’s gonna be here for a while whether the fan base is patient or not.

There are certainly some easy excuses to fall back on this year, but frick that. $44M roster - do something with it. I can understand that we will have better years ahead when we're less reliant on the portal, but this is a damn good roster and an extremely high paid coaching staff.

We had a lot of studs at WR last year, the issue was Nuss being injured and our horrible O-Line not giving our injured QB a few seconds to throw the ball across the line of scrimmage.

Championship, maybe or maybe not. However, after spending $55 mil to get rid of a coach, $15-18 mil on new coaches, $40 mil on a new roster I will say my expectations are more than eeking into the CFP and “The Process.”

When you replace 41 players in the transfer portal, how much do you expect to pay? 40 million for 41 players and most of the money went to proven players like QB (The highest paid transfers are going to be QBs and the number is only going to go up every year just like the NFL) DE, OL, and WRs (all positions of major need) how much did you actually expect LSU to spend?

I’m not tempering my expectations because I feel this team is the most talented LSU team since 2019.

It’s a difficult SEC schedule, and the 2019 team going undefeated is incredible, but I expect this year’s team will drop a game somewhere. I don’t know to whom but we will be in the National Championship game.

That’s my expectation and I believe it’s doable! Geaux Tigers, ride the Train!!

All of this is true. The way the media is hyping us up to set up Kiffin, and yes we need to temper our expectations.

Will we, no, should we, given we have a 40+ million dollar roster and one of the most expensive coaching staffs in college football, NO.

This team is paid for and built be a playoff team. These are the expectations.

Kiffin knows it, and I think he’s built for it too. This isn’t pawpaws college football anymore.

No excuses.

So you enjoy being a Debbie downer, pessimist and peeing in everyone's cornflakes.

You didn't have to post a screed on our aspirations.

The first month of the season is brutal with Clemson, Ole Miss and aTm. it may take time for the new pieces to fit together. Everyone gets that. Still, there's a helluva lot of talent on this team. There may be bumps but at some point this team will gel.

Last year's optimism was still filled with caveats about the O-line, secondary and the moron offensive coordinator, Joe Sloan among others. Last year's results were not that shocking.

We no longer have a detached, arrogant, lazy coach so last year means nothing.

FYI, it wasn’t just the board members. Nuss was 2nd in best odds to win the Heisman ( Vegas odds).

If it is a blow out he will make it to October, but may not last the season. Unless they make the playoffs this will probably be his last year there anyways. The Clemson fans/boosters are getting very restless with him

60 new players, new head coach, new offense to install, and a complete overhaul of culture. The money has to be spent to even be able to put a roster together. I’d be happy with 8-9 wins and being in the talks towards the end of the season.

8 wins would be a catastrophic failure.

Might as well have kept Kelly for another season if we are happy with 8 wins.

That appears to be a gross overstatement. I don't think I have seen many on this board saying "championship or bust". They are saying that a CFP appears is a very reasonable expectations.

So lets look at this team from that same perspective.

You're looking at things from the wrong perspective in comparing this year's LSU roster to last year's roster led by a completely different HC.

Look at things from the perspective of what Kiffin has done. Not what LSU has done without him. When you do that you see Ole Miss signed 30 transfers last season. Notably, their starting QB, RB, top 3 WRs, and 2 starting OL were ALL first year transfers. That group, under Kiffin, went 11-1 and reached the CFP. It also, under what is now the LSU offensive staff, was within a minute away and an incomplete throw into the endzone of playing for a National Championship. That is the basis/driver of expectations. Not LSU's failures under a prior regime.

I'm NOT saying the expectation should be a NC. But "patience" in terms of the landscape of college football/sports prior to NIL/freedom of transfer simply doesn't exist anymore because that era of the game doesn't exist anymore. You are applying an antiquated norm to the evaluation. Patience was required when a coach could only stack highly rated recruiting classes that would be developed over the course of multiple years. That's not the case now. Rosters are now composed of experienced upperclassmen who are on "one year contracts". There is no expectation of development because the top players aren't here to "develop". They are here to get paid and play right away.

When you sign a highly touted free agent class the expectation is for that class to produce results immediately.

I’m not reading all that. But based off your title :

After the last few years of miserable and frustrating coaching I have no patience left for it.

I don’t have temper anything because all I want is a competent coach to field a competitive team.
